Forums - Gaming Discussion - Call of Duty WWII Loot Boxes Open in Front of Other Players

UGH - and there we have it, a sleazy manipulative tactic of haves and not haves combined with gloryfied gambling.
If I had kids I would not allow them to touch any 60$ game with microtransactions in it. I seriously think it has potential to be damaging.
Not to mention the fact that it's mind numbing and not fun.

welp, this looks really shady. I feel like Activision is preparing for something huge with regards to Call of Duty, its new engine which basically manipulates players and now this weird spectator mode for loot box openings. I feel like we have to be ready for the next stage in AAA gaming, rife with DLC's, microtransactions and locking core content behind a paywall, all reluctantly accepted by the audience. Activision is going to push boundaries with what's acceptable in gaming, they did that with destiný's expansion pass and it did prove successful for them even after all that backlash. Ads for DLC's in their own games are already pretty bad but ads for MICROTRANSACTIONS???!!! damn, that's a whole new level.

I always enjoyed randomized loot and such from MMO's to games like Diablo or those supply boxes in survival games... It just sucks that someone finally realized they could make a killing by charging money for them.

Kinda surprised it took this long to catch on. Not sure what I'll do just yet, but so far I plan to just avoid any games with paid lootboxes entirely unless some friends reeeeeally want to play the darn game. We've already seen a little backtracking in Battlefront 2 Part 2 (as opposed to one of my all time favorite games, the actual Battlefront 2), so it's probably important to draw a line even though this particular game actually looks quite good.

Theory - they will use this as 'free advertising' by having fake players open up boxes with good pulls

Does anyone else see this potentially happening?

Why wouldn't they? I mean there is no oversight or control over gambl... I mean totally untradable harmless micro transactions in games.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Forget the loot boxes for a moment, why has it got a "social area"? That seems like the most pointless thing to have in a COD game... ever!

So you have a place to oggle other peple wash their money down the drain.

Microtransactions in 60$ releases lead to shitty game design.

Oh no, There's just no end to this

Well, you have to admit that they are pretty creative when it comes to microtransaction.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
