Are you the person who wanted numerous PS4 revisions from the high-end to the low-end?

I would like to see a Premium tier PlayStation that could complement Sony's top tier Audio and Video equipment. I think a PlayStation only sold at high end retailers, that delivers equivalent power to the top single GPU PC would be a very nice addition. Not a device that will sell a lot, nor would it be highly supported, but it would fill a small niche that is willing to pay.

At the mass consumer level, I think at least one more PS4 should be released before PS5, around 8 -10 Tflops with 16GB of RAM, at $399.99 in 2019 would be a perfect send off to PS4.

I think Sony should have PlayStation devices from $100 - $1,500, covering the ultra casual to the A/V enthusiast. expanding beyond Home, to mobile, wearable, and transportation.

Sony already covers all of these markets, but they lack direction. If they unify everything, and march towards a core goal, they would be able to increase unit sales and value of all of their products.

There’s no reason for them to spend millions to basically make a PS5 labelled as a PS4 to only sell a couple of millions of units. Developers would also push back because they’d have multiple PS4s to support. That defeats the purpose of a closed platform. Let’s not forget how it would sour gamers.

You’re also forgetting that they are gradually unifying everything that’s related - PS, PSNow, PS Movies, PS Music, PS Vue. They are making game for an IP that they have movie rights to. They tried/are trying for the reverse too - making movies out of their game IPs. They are making mobile games out of their console games. You can’t unify literally everything as that would cause so much interdependency that nothing would get done.

Just checked.. $160 million profit from the movie... Fuck sake.

I doubt Emoji movie made ton of money, because they gave credit for the profit to Spiderman movie only. So Dark Tower, Emoji and other efforts of Movie division didnt made any meaningful impact on the bottom line.

$211M on a $50M budget. It made money.

If PS5 is anything close to 10Tflops and 16GB of RAM, next gen is going to be truly underwhelming. PS5 should be over 20Tflops and 64GB of RAM minimum, but preferably 128GB, with an SSD in every unit. It appears days of one locked hardware lasting for 5 - 7 years are over, and we will be seeing scalable generations going forward. Everything is being built around scalability, this is not just a console thing. Developers have been prepairing for this well before PS4 Pro and XOX.

As for the rest yes, they are slowly unifying things, by building around PlayStation. With Kaz at the top and PlayStation bringing in close to 1/4 of their profits and growing, I have no doubt they will continue. They definitly have a ways to go, and they will have to have things that branch off, but the ultimate goal should be to get to the point Apple is at.

The one thing I would love to see them fix right away is the streaming mess they created. All streaming movies should be done through PlayStation Video, under G&NS. Having 4K Video behind Ultra, under Pictures is a stumble. People don't want multiple services, and multiple logins. Sony has ~80 Million active PSN users they could tap into for 4K video through PS Video, starting a new service with 0 users is illogical.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Worth pointing out that for the past quarter LG’s TV division had a 46.9B¥ operating income (converted) vs Sony’s TV segment’s 24.3B¥. I think they will close the gap gradually.

Sony might be able to close the gap gradually but I think the continued growth among the Chinese TV manufacturers (TCL, Hisense, Skyworth, Haier, etc.) will make it difficult even for Samsung and LG to see future growth. Just like the Chinese phone manufacturers (Huawei, TCL, Xiaomi, ZTE, OnePlus, etc.) are grabbing matket share. Huawei now sells more phones worldwide than Apple.

Too bad their new tone-deaf CEO John Kodera already said some stupid shit (but reasonable) about microtransactions and services and now you have youtubers profiting from the outrage culture and people are making doom scenarios about the death of gaming as if microtransactions for GoW or Spiderman were already confirmed. I feel bad for the developers who make those amazing exclusives when there's always that one corporate guy that hurts the perception of their game through his detachment of what gamers want to hear.

Agreed. Tone-deaf is probably the best word to describe John Kodera. I understand he's a business man hired to find ways for SIE to grow but he seems really anti-consumer. That he was chosen to replace Andrew House is beyond my comprehension.

As others have said, they have started to make money in both divisions, but they definitely could do better. I fully believe that more unification is needed to grow. Their premium TV's should be using the PS4 OS and APU, and the movie studio should be doing more work on Movie and TV tie ins to the game IP. Sony has a deep library of likeable characters from SCIWWS that could be very successful in video.

No doubt that Apple and Google are the goliaths of the mobile world. Sony can not compete on a sales level, but those 3.4M Xperia Phones they sold would have had massively increased value if they were running on PS4 tech, the PS4  OS, and getting content through PS Store instead of Android and Google Play.

I know the tech for a full fledged PS4  Handheld or Phone is not there yet, but when it becomes viabke it is something that needs serious consideration. Expanding their OS, Store Font, Software, and Services to more form factors will be vital to contined growth and success.

1) The PS4 APU would increase the price of each TV a lot, with few gains. Smart TVs have more media apps than the PS4. The only benefit I could see would play PS4 games, but why would you add a high cost to a TV like that? It's better to simply make deals and bundle consoles with TV.

2) The PS4 has a like a dozen apps. Just media stuff. People want way more apps on their phones than that. The PS4 OS is also nowhere near ready for a phone. Read the Android API docs just to have an idea of how many stuff Google packed there. Android has hundreds of thousands of apps, all the big names, dev mind share. It's insane to put a fight. And let's be honest, Sony can't even make a hardware as compelling as other manufacturers. While they produce the best sensors, the Xperia line is always subpar compared to Samsung/Apple/Google/HTC/LG offers. Samsung has better screens. They can't even ship phones in the US with a fingerprint sensor.  If they removed Android from these devices, you bet these 3.4M phones would soon be close to zero.

MS tried to put a fight against Android and was anihilated. Blackberry and Nokia too. All these companies had way more expertise and MS had way more money (they even went as far as acquiring the largest phone manufacturer in the world). Supposing that a new OS will have any more success with Android being like 3 years more mature is not reasonable.

Now, a handheld is a reasonable thing since its a gaming device, so it's their expertise. Anyway, I think that ship long sailed. Not even Nintendo seems to have dedicated handhelds anymore, they will just stick to hybrids.

Huh? I said I checked. It cost 50 million and made 210 million. No doubts about it

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Those Knack 2 digital sales must have been really amazing.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Well took Kaz sometime but he really delivery on his promise of turning Sony around.
Hope they can really do even better. And also find a new way to make their PS portable and PS phone viable to improve their finances even more.

Well, they sold 12.1M TVs last fiscal year and planning to sell 12.5M this fiscal year so, yeah, they’re still making TVs.

Well, actually Sony XE90-93 TVs have the best HDR in the market, over 1000 nits in every scene is killer app.
