what doesn't make sense to you? switch could have sold 2 million in 2 months, because there was 2 million nintendo fans that wanted the product real bad, after that we could have seen bigger declines on a monthly bases, but supply was very limited for so long, so many people that wanted it couldn't get it, so it added to monthly sales. |
Except I don't believe the Switch is a system where the appeal is restricted to Nintendo fans (like the Wii U was). This may be anecdotal, but I have quite a number of friends and family members around my age (about 17 people) that have not had a Nintendo system since the GBA (which is the last Nintendo system most of them owned), DS (and a good number of these friends purchased a DS but a decent amount also went for the PSP or did not purchase any portable system) and some of them Wii. These are people that readily bought a PS3 and Xbox 360 (some also have a PS4 and XONE) and only one of them had a 3DS (none of them got a Wii U). In this group of friends, nearly all of them have either bought a Switch or are waiting to get one (8 have already purchased a Switch; the rest are either planning on picking it up for the holidays or waiting until next year). In addition, this system has far more momentum than any Nintendo system that was largely picked up by the fans. Yes it is still too early to predict that the system will be success (like some who I have seen predicting 60+ million; and I have my reservations because of the system's price and value proposition) but from what I have seen the appeal of this system goes far beyond systems that largely attracted just Nintendo fans (like Wii U and Gamecube). The word of mouth regarding the system is good, the press surrounding the system is positive, and it offers something that the other two don't (powerful portable); so it has a lot of potential to be successful (but again it is way too early to call it for certain, because there are still a number of unknown variables as well).
