10/10. One of the best games ever made.

It's the 64 of the new era of Mario. Flawed, but so damn fun. Willing to forgive some of the issues due to how much it'll improve the seriew

The game, atleast the main story, is really easy for veteran gamers, however I'm not gonna knock the game for that. Difficulty is 100% relative, what's easy for one person is difficult for another, thus I would only consider difficulty a fault if it's different than what's intented/advertised. I found the game had no significant drawbacks, nothing really hindered my enjoyment of the game, was just a lot of fun all the way through. Of course there's minor issues, like the story being of typical Nintendo calibur, Mario's moves namely the dive requiring different inputs than previous games which still messes me up sometimes, motion control moves that couuld easily be mapped to a button, death having no significant drawbracks promoting careless play, no assistance finding purple coins like there is for moons, the music overall not being as memorable as previous games, boss recycling, and so ons. Still an awesome must have game for any fan of Mario or platformers, get's a 9/10 from me!

I hated, 10 out of 10.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Reminds me of Majora's Mask with the whole switching to enemies. Felt like I was the Deku Scrub like that entire forest level.

It's a 9/10 game for me so far, held back by some camera issues so 8.5/10.

I'm at the 5th world, got close to 200 moons. The score can go either way. Hunting for moons is already getting a bit repetitive, yet each new world so far is unique. A bit more platforming gameplay and less find the spot would make it perfect. It's on par with SMG, could surpass it if the game keeps bringing new unique things.

my suggestion is just go for it when it starts getting too much in the current location.. don't over-stay the worlds cause you will be going back to them regardless

and the post-game is where the game starts pretty much

it gets harder after the main story is complete
if you are a seasoned mario player.. like i guess you are.. there is no super challange until after that point.. beyond that though you'll find your fair share of hard stuff that will make you wanna smash your controller..
Have several moons that i legit just quit trying to get and went for others cause i just couldn't do it.. have some that i have yet to complete.. and the final challange is brutal.. did 20 ish tries.. each taking about 4-5minutes.. and died every single time.. nudged further by a few steps each time but holy f*ck.. if you mess up something you take a hit. and you don't replenish hearts easy

Yeah, plus even before that point, there are ways and points in which Super Mario Odyssey rewards skill.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a382dmNvRXs

yeah, totally loving that.. they know people will try shit and they reward you for it.. sure.. just coins but some designer just left them there cause they know it could be done.. and you should get rewards for beeing curious.. the whole game is like that.. could be a moon, could be coins but you pretty much always 'get something' for doing it..

i'm trying to find ways to 'break' the koopa-races, so much fun to shave off seconds on my runs :)

My opinion of the game, and the score I'd rate it are two different things.

I'll personally never play it. It plays less like Mario, and more like a child's game that combines pokemon, mario, and near instant satisfaction in the form of constantly finding easy moons.

That said I think they did a great job on it. For people that want that.

you are doing yourself a disservice by having that approach tbh.
Just try to play it sometime with an open mind, if you seriously don't enjoy it after that i can repsect that..
but just saying 'nope, not gonna be good' before even trying it..

Hope thats not how you treat the rest of your life.. cause then you are missing out on great stuff.

Edit: if you don't wanna fork out money for a switch and the game, that is something i understand too.. but try it if you get the chance is my 'point'

My mom got it, so I did try it.  The co-op is just non existant. Playing as the hat isn't fun.  It adds nothing to the group. And it gets weird becauset he original player can "throw" you - even if you are playing as the hat.

It didn't even occure to me until after they removed death/lives.  Now if you die you just lose 10 coins.

Also as my own personal gripe I don't care for the motion controls. Early on there is a flower ring that you have to trigger them all at once. To do that I had to shake my pro controller back and forth to cause the hat to spin around me.

It is just too easy. The emoji's, the screenshots, the no death, the fact you can find moons EVERYWHERE, using the purple currency to play dress up.  Just not want I want in that game. I can see it was designed well, but not designed for me.

ok.. you bring up some points.. never tried co-op.. would never think about playing it that way either tbh. but thats beside the point that co-op was no fun for you.

Lives imo. was no 'fun'... you still get 20+ easy and never have to care anyway. dying and having to start the level over still happens.. getting a game over so you have to select your file again (i mean.. that was still always possible) just never happens..

Regarding motion control.. you don't need to use it at all. everything needed to complete the game story etc. is available through just pushing buttons.
i never used the homing throw in my run, also remember the spin-move, what did you get from the flower patch thing? you are prob. talking about a heart. or a moon, you don't need to get all of them, skip it if the way is bothering you (also, you don't need to use the spin move to complete those, you just throw cappy 2-3 times quick)

easy = you never even stuck with it to where it gets challanging.. so thats on you
screenshots? seriously? is that a negative thing that you can take screenshots? :D you sound more and more dead inside.. like, having an optional feature is bad
Moons are everywhere, you need a set number to advance to a new place to change up pace/moves/difficulty, you don't need to get them all the first time you are in a world.
don't by costumes if you don't like them? game is not forcing you to do it.

the game is designed in the way that BOTW is, you do as much/little as you want with it.. but if you want more of the same you can always go back to a 'mario64' formula game.

Anyway :P you are on the verge of being objectivly wrong in your oppinion :P but i won't push it further than this post
Take care m8 :)

That would be a negative in my book, if that's true it's coming down to an 8/10!

But you're right, it's better not to over-stay as apart from the timed challenges, most of the extra moons you find aren't really worth looking for. Exploring the levels is a lot of fun anyway, which is why I rather not have stuff blocked out until the post-game. After I've extensively gone over a level I don't really want to go back to it. A lot of games do that for padding unfortunately, and with 5 (short) loading screens to hop between worlds it's not the best game design.

The game is great regardless of those minor nitpicks (camera and motion controls included. Is it just me that the spin attack only registers 50% of the time) And it has been screwing up my races in GT Sport! I've been switching back and forth since sport mode races start every 20 minutes for a 8 minute race, leaves 12 minutes to play SMO in the downtime. Then I got DQ for forgetting to switch back for the next scheduled race.
