Nice, so PS4 will probably hit 100m at end of 2019. I wonder if this is PS4 peak year in sales.

It could be but I think the PS4 will drop to $200 next year and with GoW, Spiderman, RDR2 and TLoU2, I think 2018 might just be the peak year. We’ll see. I think Detroit and Ghost of Tsushima will be big too.

We will see, it's definitely this or next one.

I still think they are low balling with that 19 million figure. With Gran Turismo Sport coming out this quarter, and God of War most likely coming around late February or March, I don't see any reason for them not to match or exceed the 20M units they sold in FY2016

Yes, they are. Nintendo is too with their new forecasts. They are predictions that MUST be met at any costs. Annoucing predictions and failling to meet them is a terrible prospect. So when tehse companies rise their forecasts, it's because they know they will make it without breaking a sweat. Actually, it's just because they notice that their previous forecast would be pathetically low.

So, more than 20M is a total given. They are most likely aiming at 21 or 22M right now.

For FY16, the forecast 20 million, and they shipped 20 million.

People have to remember that the PS4 had massive stock at the start of the year. Like literally almost 3.5 million. That's an extremely high stock level, even for a product selling as well as the PS4. Because of that, the PS4 may be down YoY in overall shipments despite being up in sales for the year.

Yesterday we got news of Nintendo kicking ass and now we find out Playstation is kicking ass as well, good news!!!

It's nice seeing it happen relatively independently too. We normally only see this kind of two-lane market with home consoles vs handheld, which makes me think the PS4 has maintained its grip on the home console market, and the Switch is predominantly pulling in and slightly re-shaping the handheld market. Works out pretty nicely for both Sony and Nintendo.

I think the next console to be underrated will be the Switch. I think the only thing that could make it fail to reach 100M at this point would be an early successor interrupting his cycle. Ninty kind off cancelled the Wii U mid-gen and started their cycle again. They may feel the pressure of a PS5/X2 and release a new console, making Switch a relatively short-lived device, like the GBA. I don't think it is that likely, since their current cycle is now on par with their handheld upgrade schedule (DS/3DS) and not following the home console cycle.

Don't see ninty being moved by anything sony or MS does..... thats kinda been their thing since after the GC. I think ninty has made it clear that they are never gingto be drawn into an tech race again with teh HD tw.... 4k twins.

As for this news? Thats great. Sony is definitely off to having a great year. Gotta wonder what next year would look like with potentially a $200 PS4 and a $300 PS4pro; all bundled with a game.

Can't decide which will be the PS4s peak year. Maybe net year would just be flat with this one.

Great result for the PS4, congratz!

So, does that mean PS4, Switch and 3DS all undertracked to some degree on VGChartz?

Im so glad the PS4 is doing amazing.

The healthier the videogame market is, the happier i am.

Fantastic numbers, Playstation 4 is The Best Place To Play!!!

Oh... and this means VGC has the PS4 having around 4.3M consoles sitting on shelves.

It still has about 3 weeks of tracking to do for sept to catch up with this end of sept shipping numbers, but even if they somehow say it sold 1M in those 3 weeks there will still be 3.3M units on shelves according to VGC.

Undertracked? Or acceptable?

Both of PS4 and switch are selling well, that is great news.
