Forums - Sales Discussion - 67.5M PS4 shipped. 4.2M in Q2. Forecast for FY raised

FYI Sony stock up 15%. I assume primarily driven by the increase in the operating income forecast.

Yeah, that’s what they get for being an Apple supplier, Apple is about to have a massive year and that bump should help all their suppliers.

As for PS4, should give PS2 a run for its money imo, I can’t see how it don’t with the software line up and the fact that Sony consoles sell well after the gen ends.

Figure they get another 5 more years out of PS4 before they pull the plug on it. It should end this year just about 70 mil, then go up maybe 20 mil shipped 2018 with big titles from world wide studio, big Destiny update, price cuts prolly getting it to $199 finally. I’m thinking it peaks 2019 with a GTA title and Destiny 3 and ships another 20 mil. Goes into 2020 well over 100 mil shipped, loses steam from 2020-2023 with PS5 now in the mix. Ships 30 mil total from 2020-23, shipment ends at 135-140 mil in 2024 with 11 years in production.

But wtf do I know.

You probably got it on black friday. At the end of the day, right now you can’t get a PS3 for less than $299. Sure there are bundles where they give you a digital code but that’s not the same as the PS4 selling for $199.

And for the record, base PS4 slim with 500GB is still $299.

No I didn't get on Black Friday, for very long you had U4 bundle for $250 on Amazon. PS3 is discounted so how much currently costs is irrelevant.

Talking about ignoring reality, for the record on Amazon US you currently have 2 different LE PS4 1TB consoles that came with one game for $299.

PS3 had increase in HD space and more games bundled those weren't considered pricecuts, and most customers only ever care about the pricetag of the baseline not if anything else was added when looking for a price.

But ok Go and check the pricecuts for PS1, 2 and 3 and say if any of then had a schedule for pricecut similar to PS4 in how long it took for the pricecuts to come.

If you really see difference of $100 in price and don't see any difference between PS4 500GB model compared to PS4 1TB bundle with one game, I dont know what say to you, because there is huge difference in value between those 2 bundles.

Fact is that PS4 is really selling below oficaly $299 price and that's my point, $299 is just official price on paper, in reality you can buy for less than that or buy much bundle with much bigger value (1TB bundle with game).

I wonder  why you try so hard to downplay  the phenomenal  sales of ps4?

Not  the first  time i see you heavily  try to downplay  ps4

Fact is and always  will be, ps4is officially  300.a

Lol, I dont try at all to downplay phenomenal sales of PS4, I just talking about facts. And I didnt start this talk about price of PS4, it was just talk about when peak PS4 year will be.

I never try to downplay PS4 (if we don't talk about Japan PS4 sales for which some people are saying that are "phenomenal"), I am happy about PS4 sales and I own PS4.

Fact is that PS4 official price for base 500GB model is PS4, but fact is also that you regularly have PS4 for much less money or that you can strong bundle (1TB with one game) for same that official price of base 500GB model.

PS4 sales in Japan is phenomenal considering that Japan is a dead market for consoles.

I totally disagree that PS4 sales are in Japan phenomenal in any case, and PS4 wouldn't sell at all if Japan is dead market for consoles or would faulty Wii U sell more than 3m consoles in Japan.

Yeah, nah. 10 years ago, the PS2 was selling for $99. Even if it was $199, 5-10 years is not enough to increase the price to $249. You’ll be doubly wrong if the leaked $199 Black Friday PS4 is true. A console is an essential device like a smartphone, a lot of which, btw, people get on a plan.

Why would I be doubly wrong? If I'm arguing that $249 is mainstream then obviously $199 is even better and will result in much higher sales! Do far $249has proven to be a good price point as both X1 and PS4 have seen great sales when they've trmporary lowered the price to that during the holidays.

Think of it this way.... the lower a pricepoint, the more mainstream it is.

Yes, PS4 has seen great sales at $249. But believe us when we say its nothing compared to what it will see at $199. Better yet $199 with a game.

not deserved at all because after 4 yrs i cant even play a new god of war on my ps4 which is just insane and disgusting at the same time.

Well, You have GoW3 remaster... and PS1 hadn't a GoW (sold 100M+) and PS2 took several years to have GoW (even PS3 took their sweet time)

I do realize, yet you are shifing goals (beside the fact that I couldn't care less about the size of the HDD, bought a 4Tb HD just for it).

The HD increase is pennies cost for Sony and several times the substitution was even covered by the older one being not common anymore and costing more to manufacture.

Yet as people pointed out Sony MSRP for PS4 500Gb is still 299 USD without any game. So it is effective only 25% price cut in 4 years.

Yet I asked you to show which PS had less pricecuts in 4 years and you failed to provide any, so accept it that PS4 is still to peak (could be this or next year who knows) with very little pricecut so far.

Yep, because PS3 was record sale in Japan. Accept that the console market is shrinking in Japan as is the HH WW.

I don't shifting anything, I talking about clear facts, on one side you have base 500GB model for $400 and other 1TB PS4 model with game for $300 and you only see that's only difference in price, also you ignoring that you have regualy bundles for less than $300.

HD costs don't have anything with talk we have here.

As I alredy pointed, fact is that PS4 official price for base 500GB model is PS4, but fact is also that you regularly have PS4 for much less money or that you can strong bundle (1TB with one game) for same that official price of base 500GB model.

I dont see any reson to provide that, my point is simple, regardles fact that MSRP is $300 for base 500GB in reality you can regulary buy 1TB bundle with one game for that price, or find bundle with game for less. We will see if this year is peak or not (probably will next or this one in any case). I bouth mine PS4 Slim 500GB for $250 last year.

PS3 was worst selling Sony console WW not just in Japan, shrinked market is not same thing like dead market.

Think long and hard - what was the last console to sell very well in Japan?

So the price of the HD have nothing to do with the increase in size and not in price? So a 4Gb HD for several hundreds in the 90's is a pricecut for the 1Tb costing under a hundred? Nope that is the natural evolution.

You can pretend all you like, the premise that the PS4 had the least pricecut and is yet to peak is still there.
