Forums - Sony Discussion - SinglePlayer Is NOT Dead

And judging from the responses from this thread feathers were definitely rustled lol

I agree. I swear it seems like every gamer I know prefers to play single player games as opposed to multiplayer games and every year I still here people saying this. I think single player games are doing just fine....

I play single player games 95% of the time as opposed to online games. Really the only multiplayer games I give a flip about is Battlefield and Killzone

Whatever vision Microsoft has (which seems to be that it's easier to 'microtransact' players in multiplayer oriented game), I don't think it even affects the majority of games for Xbox One. Microsoft's first party titles makes up for a minority of notable games on the system as long as they have strong third party support.

Pretty much. There's no lack of single player titles on any platform.

Sony are Nintendo are back at their best, although I have to say that I think Nintendo will influence Sony more than Microsoft in terms of Singleplay V Multiplayer. Not that I'm saying Sony haven't got a record for releasing singleplayer games, just that, if Sony are looking to tailor their gameplay to 'trends', they're more likely to watch Nintendo.

No ones bitter, but the fact is that the potential to lose single player games exists in a couple of companies. I think we can figure out who they are. Not saying now, but the possibility is there.

Singler player is not dead, but not only for Ps4 players lol

As long as Sony, Bethesda, Rockstar and Nintendo are around the four pillars will support Single player and be great at it (as they always have).

Microsofts involvement purely depends on their ability to make a new IP that sticks ( which they've failed to do). If their fans dont support it, then single player will surely die. They will follow EA on their path.

Good. I got almost no interest in multi-player games and I love my single player experiences (a certain pun is not intended)
So I'll be damned if my favorite manner of playing dies down.

Ghost of Tsushima was a fucking sweet surprised, I'm hyped as fuck,
First Guerrila, now Sucker Punch, Sony studios are really surprising me,

I don't really like open world. But HZD and Infamous were close enough to be pleasant and don't need you going back and forth losing time.

Just wished to post this comment from another thread with Shaw Layden commenting on SP.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8608301

Microsofts - Loftis (on single player games):
"I don't think that it's dead per se,"
"I do think the economics of taking a single-player game and telling a very high fidelity multi-hour story get a little more complicated"

Sony - Shawn Layden (on single player games):
“My philosophy is to play to my strengths,”

“And if you look at the studios we have – Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Santa Monica Studio, Japan Studio – that’s what we do well. We do story. We create characters.”

“Those are the kind of things we do well. It’s what we’re known for. It really speaks to our entertainment DNA. We wish to entertain. We wish to make you happy. We wish to make you cry. That whole range of emotions we can pluck at to make you have a great experience. We’re big on character. We’re big on story.”

Sony still believes in makeing Single player experiances, proof is in the pudding.

Even Guerrila nailed it this gen, HZD story was freaking awesome.

Yep I liked more than I would have expected, beggining to end without taking a break.

Not exactly due to the engagement of the platform holder right?

Well, we all know you're talking about Microsoft, you've shared this "concern" before. And I'm not sure why you're worried, a vast majority of the games MS has released or brought to Xbone have dedicated single player modes. I mean in the last couple years alone we've got two Forza games, Halo, Gears, Halo Wars, Recore, Quantum Break, Cuphead, etc etc plus others coming like Crackdown, State of Decay, and a new Ori in 2018.

Too many people are confusing "single player titles are more difficult financially" with "we're completely done making single player games".

And before someone neckbeards out trying to make it some list war, I'm not saying they release as many games as the other two :)
