Forums - Microsoft Discussion - OG Xbox BC on X1 is clearly built on the emulation work done for 360.

So here's a few things I noticed about OG Xbox games on X1...

1. All the games added were already compatible with 360.

2. All the OG XBox games added X1 BC were already on 360's marketplace or were added to the 360's marketplace. Such as KOTOR, it always worked on 360 but now you can buy it digitally on 360.

3. The emulator on 360 is notoriously buggy and has performance issues. But its very likely MS is starting with the old emulator and just updating it. While performance and resolution upgrades are primarily from brute force power.

So what does this all mean?! Me thinks the games going to be added to this service are the titles that 360 could already play.

BC on the 360 had many games on its compatible list so much of the work is already done, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360

In a nutshell, X1 is basically using the medicore OG Xbox emulator from 360. But via brute force power of X1 and emulation tweaks the emulator is getting better. Any OG Xbox game added to X1 will also be compatible and sold on 360, based on what we've seen so far.

I don't know about all of this but KOTOR plays flawlessly so far :) (maybe 12 hours in)

That's all I need from this mediocre emulator

Funny how people used to play on 15 fps and it was just fine

Yeah, but much of that can't be added because its a lot of licensing issues, dated sports stuff, and much of the library is simply junk. I don't think MS was getting any permission for BC back then, but they will for X1.

There are like 50 OG Xbox games that would great additions to the X1 library. I'm guessing at best we'll see like 100 games added to X1, a fraction of the 360 addtions.

Well... I dunno if it was fine. A game like KOTOR wasn't that reliant on smooth frame rate like a traditional action games.

For example, I stopped playing Shadow of the Colossus on PS2 because the frame rate was awful and it affected the control responsiveness. During combat it was basically a 20 fps and lower game.

If you watched the video you'd get an idea why people disliked that emulator on 360. On X1 though, primarily thanks to a MASSSIVE performance boost, its less than mediocre now. I'm assuming they're doing work to fix bugs as well. But it seems like they're starting with the well emulated stuff first.

KOTOR happens to be one of the most desired games and that was an ideal game to launch this service with.

While the emulator was kinda mediocre, it was still a useful feature on 360. I used it to play through Jet Set Radio Future and it was mostly fine.

I have a physical copy of KOTOR and I look forward to using it on my X1.

Amazing to see games running much better on the XB1. Do you know when they are adding more games onto the XB1?

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I did not know it existed on the 360 :)

Actually when you buy the OG game (Kotor in my case), it says "play on 360". So it makes a lot of sense (your OP)

I have no idea! But its safe to assume it'll be completely random just like 360 games are added.
