Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How far are you in Super Mario Odyssey?

Are you far?

Yes 23 12.92%

No 48 26.97%

I have no idea 34 19.10%

I think I am in the middle 26 14.61%

Beat the game 47 26.40%

Total:178

Well there is a crap ton of content here, and so far it is brilliant. This truly feels like a successor to Mario 64. I am currently on the forest world (one if the choices after the desert). I have probably been playing for over four hours, but I am trying to get a good chunk of the moons from each world I visit (nkt just the minimum). So far, they seem decently sized, varied, and full of content. There is much more to this game than just the main story (much like ANY Mario game).

I have not had this much fun in a 3D platformer since Mario 64 and Banjo Kazzoie 64. If you are beating the main game in less than ten hours, you are playing it wrong and have barely scratched the surface.

i am @ the place you unlock when you get 500 moons.. so hard i had to do something else for a while.. did like 20+ tries and still couldn't do it.. and each of them takes 4+min cause you get good at the 'start'.. and there are no checkpoints..
at least not until after where i got.. but i have a feeling there are gonna be none

So, is this game pretty short for a Mario game or is it normal that you all finish it in a day? I've only played for 2 hours and I'm flying through the game as well. It's lovely but compared to spending 170 hours on BotW this seems like a small snack?

I'd say that if you breeze through the game with the bare minimum it'd take you around 10 hours to beat it, and it's actually the standard for 3D Mario games. But it seems that SMO has way more content that any 3D Mario game. And I really love Mario games post-game generally.

I'm taking my time, still collecting moons in the desert, only just warmed it up. I have more than enough to go to the next world yet still having fun in the desert.

One minor grip is the camera. I hate it how it keeps jerking back to go behind you when you try to look around while running, or how it automatically turns towards the ground if you go down a slight incline. I feel like I constantly need to adjust the viewpoint. We tried playing in 2 player mode and without easy camera control it's not fun, plus the mode seems pretty pointless. Otherwise an excellent game.

I've beaten the game and am at like 370 moons. It just floors me to how much they fit into these worlds. They are decent sized worlds and I feel like I've seen everything, only to find out there are 20 secrets I had no clue about. I've seen complaints about people saying there's no challenge to this game, and if you're talking about the campaign, you're sorta right, but if you're doing everything else like the game wants you to, it probably is one of the most tasking games I've ever played. The challenge is in exploration, something lacking from recent Mario games.

One minor gripe I occasionally have is some of the motion controls. I love the motion controls in this game (I actually think they are better implemented here than in Arms), but when playing with the Pro Controller, I wish they mapped those moves out to buttons. When on an electric line surrounded by coins, I have to shake the controller. I wish they would have implemented the quicker motions to a button layout, but it doesn't take away from a 10/10 experience to me.

How are you finding the post-game? Is it fun? Are there plenty of things to do? I'm just reaching the end and I can't wait what SMO has to offer!

Sometimes the camera focus a lot in the ground, so I get what you say. It's a minor issue, but an issue at times nonetheless.

I've just reached my favourite kingdom yet. It's fun that when I think: " How the hell are Nintendo going to beat this awesome kingdom?" they just do it like it was nothing. I think it's the twelth kingdom.

It just gets better. :) post-game is where the challange starts..
you will find HARD things, that beat your ass and you get a nice feeling accomplishment from finishing

also, the place that unlocks after is just a delight.. i think you'll understand when you get there.. it just feels good to run around and you get a warm feeling in your heart :) for a while at least
it is kind of a wasted oppertunity gameplay-wise.. but it is still good.. i think you'll understand what i mean by this too

imo. just go for it.. the rest of the game is still there.. and the ending of the game is a treat too..

if it is not apparent... I f*cking love this game.. could gush 500 words more but it is time to shut up :D

really liking it so far... reminds me a lot of super mario 64 (I get the same feeling of awe and wonderment while playing this game). Probably a 10/10 simply due to the polish, platforming mechanics and variety. Music is top notch too.

Enjoying it much more than zelda botw too.

How did so many people beat the game already?!?!? :O

Some of you broke the street date didn't you?

Anyway I just got to New Donk city. I have been playing slow so far. I have been trying to get a lot of the moons before moving on.

I like how the game feels NEW and DIFFERENT. We the exception of Mario Galaxy 1 feel like recent 3D Mario games felt very samey. This is the first Mario game in 10 years where everything feels so fresh and new. The game has a distinct sytle that is very memorable. I can't wait to see how this ride ends.

Also without spoiling anything. Does getting all the moons give you a new level or something or is it purely cosmentic?

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true
