So basically its the same thing as BOTW.....you can go straight for the finish or take your time and explore around each kingdom.....(the majority of which will do the latter)...

I honestly think it could be a very even split between the two for GOTY. Like 50% for one of them, 45% for the other, 5% something else.

I think the days of Zelda receiving more critical acclaim than 3D Mario are behind us. Odyssey is higher on MetaCritic, OpenCritic, and GameRankings. It is the highest rated game ever on the latter two.

If that isn't a sign of what is to come then I don't know what is.

How can one call levels in odyssey flat and uninspired and say botw is better with a straight face? Unless you enjoy the vast amounts of nothingness that is present in botw. Dont even get me started on the trials.

Yet that is Exactly what the op of this thread is doing so meh. 

I don't quite understand why you'd want to look that deeply into a game, rather than discover it for yourself in game. That'd just spoil a lot for me personally.

What I find the most strange about your points is the length, when technically Zelda can be beaten rather quickly if you're skilled enough and don't have enough interest to thoroughly explore the world. It seems both BotW and Odyssey can be considered somewhat similarly in that regard, since if you go for completion, your playtime will run for a lot longer than simply beating the game.

The OP's points are kind of lame, but I think Breath of the Wild will win more GOTYs.

Honestly, it's just hard to imagine any game besting BOTW this year. It's really a revolutionary experience that takes the core mechanics that have made western style open world games so popular, but adds more satisfying mechanics, and a tighter focus. It's a landmark title.

That being said, I have Mario Odyssey downloaded, and I'm mainly making this post just to pass the hour until I can actually play it. I'd be extremely happy to be proven wrong.

I'm not sure if I agree with the reasons, but at least I agree with the premise: BotW will win over SMO.
