seems like a lot of immature people reacting sensitively if you ask me. There's no proof either way, and in the end the odds are that the majority of forums and websites have owners and moderators who are ass holes in their personal lives.

Supposedly the guy who runs GAF seemed like a dick in the past too, yet that didn't effect people then? People will get offended about anything these days. Sexual harassment is no joke, but if you look at the scenario worded by the girl herself it appears to be an awkward drunk night misunderstanding which resulted in a rejection. However after that it appears the two were involved romantically, so it is indeed a complicated affair overall. Its hardly black and white and frankly in the end the answers probably won't come out entirely because at worst it seems like possibly a night of an unwelcome 'come on' that was stopped as soon as the party made that aware

People suicide posting threads for attention of "OMG Neogaf is gross now, BAN ME" is just so gross and in bad taste. And the reality is who do people think will be running ResetEra? it will be the same old mods who were extremely sensitive before and pushed the herd mentality of attacking anyone who dared not to be insanely politically correct.

I mean for gods sake it probably will be an unknown factor of who technically owns and runs ResetEra, and at least somewhat unknown of if the people in charge have done fucked up things in their past.

Which is why it's silly to me. Neogaf isn't a community that's ever worshipped the guy who owns it. Just like VGChartz isn't a community all about its owner. So why on the Earth is it so relevant? it's a discussion forum about games. And, again, the odds are there are mods and owners at the majority of websites who aren't the sweetest slices of pie, but you'll never know that.

Just seems like a lot of immature actions lately and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of mods who resented things about GAF (in general) have been just waiting for an opportunity to jump ship and make their own site. It comes off as kind of tacky to jump on a unsubstantiated claim and run with it with extremes to build your own community. And the irony is that the very same people who seem to be jumping ship on GAF appear to be the same ones who made it a nightmare for new members (i.e. social justice warrior attacks on any edge comments whatsoever). 

It didn't really matter who the owner of Neogaf was before, and it doesn't really now because nothing pertains to that as far as chatting games. The odds are the CEO's/boards of Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Amazon, etc. etc. etc. are involved in terrible practices that rely on foreign slave work (practically), yet I highly doubt the whiners asking for bans on GAF are going to refuse to ever go to those stores. Just like I highly doubt they're going to VET every movie director, every author, every musician, for ANY previous hiccups or accusations of harrassment, or just claims of harassment

Long story short: the fact that ResetEra (and others?) are bloating up an unsubtantiated accusation and going to an extreme with it to prop up their new community, where presumably a number of the former GAF mods will have power and even ownership (?) sort of is not a good look. The way people the people who are leaving that community are acting seems to suggest that they potentially weren't a great part of it to begin with

for the record: people are inoccent until proven guilty and in the end no one determines if they're going to use a website based on the owner because 99.9% of the time people have no fucking clue who the owners really are.

if ResetEra is truly full of old members of GAF who constantly seemed to go on witchhunts against any slight offense someone made in the industry, and whom tried to ban anyone who wasn't extremely liberal- it'll be a nightmare to post on the forum. I don't have high expectations for it. 

and frankly GAF changing their rules up recently to not have so much politics on the site seems like a good direction. NEOGAF has almost been ruined in recent years by the insane political direction of everything in practically all threads. It stopped being about video games and talking about passions (or arguing about passions). That's one thing that's nice about this forum, there's a nice emphasis on the games and every single thread doesn't turn into a witchhunt 

agree with this in general. A lot of the people going nuts on GAF and posting immature "BAN ME, THIS SITE IS GROSS" threads seem to be a big portion of the users in the past who were extremely sensitive and would attack anyone who didn't agree with their herd menality. A lot of the mods on GAF who recently quit were like that, erasing posters who didn't fall in line with the group agenda. Hopefully newer mods will be better about that. 

the thing that makes it hard to take seriously about this whole thing is that it's based entirely on an unknown quantity. The NeoGAF owner may or may not be a dick as far as the recent accusation, it's unknown at this point. The people leaving and being loud are basically painting the guy as guilty before he's been put to trial (metaphorically).

Which suggests that a lot of these people jumping ship are the same social justice extremers from GAF in the past who would witchhunt any dev or game producer who had even the smallest thing happen.  It also is funny timing- supposedly this new activity is all it took for the people on the GAF discord to want to start a new site, but I think it points to the obvious strong possibility that a group on GAF had been discussing off branching for a while and were just waiting for an opportunity to blow extra smoke and take advantage of a scenario

In the end it's fairly safe to expect that some of the mods or owner of whatever ResetEra becomes will also have skeletons in their closets, after all we are dealing with humans, lots of humans, running these forums. and humans are flawed. I just don't buy in the reasoning here. People are acting like the GAF owner murdered someone or something, and like they're heroes or something for asking to get banned on a forum. what a joke

I agree that it seems likely that an offshoot of the GAF community has been waiting for a chance and opportunity to start their own new forum where I would assume they'll have some ownership and power. Because otherwise this makes zero sense, there is nothing concrete to suddenly say "GAF is trash compared to a week ago". Nothing has changed except an unvalidated claim against the owner. And even if the owner is a bit of a dick.... so? Does anyone honestly think the people running that new forum are going to all be angels? like anyone would ever know anything about their personal lives?

I mean like you mention, jesus, Shinobi is going to be on of their higher mods and he/she put out total bullshit about Mass Effect in advance to mislead peps due to connections with EA. 

Some reason the folks at Reset think simply saying "we've got Emily Rogers and are going to make ALL genders feel comfortable" is some sort of groundbreaking explanation for why they're creating the forum, as if there aren't a million other gaming forums out there that are open to everyone. I think I read something yesterday about one of the mods like making a huge point to post on their discord that "just so everyone knows that we care about diversity, I've bisexual trans". Just feels weird to me. what exactly is it bringing to the table again? a group who hates the GAF owner or something? ...

Heh, no. ResetEra is going to be an even more extreme echo-chamber purity shitshow than NeoGAF ever was. Groupthink, witch hunts, dogpiling - all the worst aspects of GAF minus actual industry insiders. Nobody in the business is going to want to go there,  and no one who values even a modicum of free speech.

The real alternative to NeoGAF is (and has been for years) The Bore http://www.thebore.com/forum/ where current and former members of NeoGAF keep in touch and talk freely without constant fear of getting banned for saying the wrong thing. In the last couple of days alone ~400 former NeoGAF members have joined.

Not at all, I just thought I'd mention it because it seems some NeoGAF refugees haven't heard of it* and don't know where to go, and I'd feel sorry for anyone who thinks ResetEra is NeoGAF's successor and the only place they can go. It's not.

*obviously the word thebore.com is censored on NeoGAF, so it's not like you could tell anyone there

EvilLore admitted to what he did.  The thing is;
He jumped into a shower with someone unsolicited, she asked/told him to get out and he did

That got people upset, which eventually blew up into 'Sexual Assault', and to people who hate Gaf,  that EvilLore is a 'Rapist'.  Personally I see it as an awkward thing that happened, though if I was a woman and that happened it would be a bad time for sure, to be vulnerable in the bathroom(naked and drunk) when that happened.

The other thing is...it then went into weird soap opera drama territory and being horribly and hilariously mishandled;
Leupp said, 'Yeah he got out, and we travelled together, and he didn't speak much to me and was kinda mean to me, but then later on we had sex and was in a short relationship'

And then you start thinking, hey wait, so it maybe he misread that at the time but there was probably something there??

And while this was to eventually come out, Evillore was busy telling his moderators about cults and kidnapping and victim blaming and shutting down the forum, essentially throwing gasoline on a small fire and putting a flamable curtain over it shouting to passersby, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKING AT???!!"

And thn we find out that there was some love triangle going on and that it could be a case of jilted lover/jealousy syndrome, at which point I tapped out and that's just some shit between those three people which should have never likely come to light.

And Evillore continued to stifle discussion, even throwing his previous mods under the bus claiming they were scared of user backlash which is why they left in his 'State of NeoGaf' post.

Account suicides ran rampant, with people being upset over the sexual harassment with some posting porn, one of which I saw with men fisting each other and obese women fingering themselves, which is always classy.

I like spome of the mods on the new forum, but I;m not sure how that'll play out, and I echo other people's sentiments about Emily Rogers and Shinobi being major players there.  No problem with them personally but I know their history.
