I only play as male. I don't play games with female only protagonists.

How come? Genuine reason or are you trying to bait the neogaf sjw's out of hiding?

I play from time to time as a female. I don't know what the reason is...

Oblivion / Skyrim: Female Cat
South Park: Male
Splatoon 1 and 2: Male
Fire Emblem Awakening: Male
Fire Emblem Echoes: Female
Diablo 3:
Barbar - Male
Monk - Female
Wizard - Female
Witch Doctor - Female
Paladin - Female
Demon Hunter - Female
Fallout 4: Female

I don't know... I guess what fits the best :/

Intel Core i7 8700K | 32 GB DDR 4 PC 3200 | ROG STRIX Z370-F Gaming | RTX 3090 FE| Crappy Monitor| HTC Vive Pro :3

"[MALE ONLY POLL OBVIOUSLY]" - Totally necessary for the three females on this site!

I default to male in create your character games like Fire Emblem, though I'll choose female on additional playthroughs. In a game with established characters like Smash, I just play who I like regardless of their gender.

EDIT: I'm surprised the poll results are that even, was expecting female to have way more percentage. I mean just look at all the male users with female avatars, hell the dolphin in my avatar coukd be female for all I know!

No i'm for real. My genuine reason is that I am male, and immersion is important to me. I play video games for my sense of enjoyment and escapism. I don't want to play as a female, because it's not me. I just can't connect.

I always make a male character and also try to make him look like me, because I like to roleplay as myself in any given situation. How would I react? What decision would I make? It also helps my immersion, it's like I'm in that world as myself, basically. Playing a female would be a distraction from that.
However, I have no problem playing a female protagonist as an established character when there's no option to create your own. I've played through all the mainline Tomb Raiders since the nineties, and enjoyed them and Lara as a character very much.

I always try to make a character look myself if not that then choose a male if can't do that then no biggie. I find playing as a girl character distracting......

I almost always pick a male character and try to make him as feminine as possible, if the game features a character creator.

Notable exceptions include games with character creators that don't give such options (like Mass Effect, where I just went with a manly male), or Souls games (which I've went with females or old-geezer male knights).

Whenever I'm playing a Resident Evil game, I prefer going with the female option. Jill, Claire, Sheva. Playing through Umbrella Chronicles, I also gravitated toward the female option.

Outside these specified instances, I don't really care whether I have to play as male or female. I don't mind playing a game that only features women as MCs. I was a huge Tomb Raider fan back in the day.

Why though?

I simply don't relate as much to them... just seeing a black paladin I become less willing to play as him. I think its because they are black, I have black friends, I don't hate black people but I simply do not relate to them as I do towards white people especially in games. (when I don't have any personal relationship towards one of them)

I know what some might think but I ain't racist ... I am simply telling you the truth. If a flood happens in Africa I am less concerned then if it happened closer to home. I think that most people are like that, just look at the hurricanes in America and the attention that got compared to the floodings and hurricanes in Bangladesh.

In the end its all just preference, Like the choice of who to date... you decide based on several factors and even race might be one of them and that ain't a "wrong" thing to do.   Why would race not be a factor?

Good man, im liking this honesty. It sounds like it may even be mixed with a pich of dissapointment being that for whatever reason, there still seems to be a barrier. I am the same way a bit if im being honest

Depends. If it's a game where it represents yourself, as in like an avatar, say a roleplaying game, or mmo, I always pick the male character. However, when it comes to everything else, it depends on who I like playing as. I pick Yoshimitsu and Feng Wei in Tekken, however, I use Lili and Leo too, who are female.

Then, in Overwatch, I solely play D.Va. Mortal Kombat, it's Sub-Zero, Ermac, and Kitana, and in BlazBlue, Taokaka. Marvel Vs. Capcom infinite, I use Morrigan, X, and Sigma.

I don't go for genders in games. I just pick whatever character who's playstyle I like.

The reason why I only use Taokaka in Blazblue, or best with Ruby Heart in Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is because those characters have play styles that I like most.

I don't like playing as a female. I even turn away from most games that make you play as one as the main.
