Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 360 "Newton" motion controller confirmed

My prediction is that it will be bundled with Banjo Kazooie 3. That is if this is true, and I hope it is.

My prediction is for use in Star Wars the Force Unleashed.  That way the September release date would make sense (delays due to code implementation).

At least the following link states that it is based on pretty good top notch insider info...

The legal patent and copyright issues are addressed in this article so fanboys and fangirls need not worry. Thoughts about a release date anyone???

I'd like to invite all Sony haters to recall, honestly, whether they've ever criticized Sixaxis motion controls as unnecessary, stupid, or a rip-off of the Wiimote. Even if the criticism was just in your thoughts and not verbalized...did you ever think, "stupid Sony, what a dumb, unnecessary idea" ?

Please then, please, don't make yourself a hypocrite when this controller is released.

I have problems with the Sixaxis, not because it's a WiiMote ripoff, but because it sucks pure 100% ass.

Other than steering projectiles (R&C, Heavenly Sword), the Sixaxis' motion controls are infuriating and broken. Motion controls aren't very versatile when it requires use of both hands at the same time.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

From my experience, comparing the accuracy of the sixaxis' motion sensing capabilities to the wiimote's is akin to comparing analog sticks to a mouse. It's clunky, unresponsive, and feels like an afterthought.

So what you're saying is that they should copy every single good idea of other companies (wiimote, blue-ray) and add it to the X-Box as an add-on???

Then, they should include a XPortable "Lite"... I mean... They are trying to improve their sales.... and that's what a company is supposed to do... but i highly doubt people will react the same way they did when the Wii came out...

They are always going to be 2nd or 3rd with this strategies... and to be in that place and not earning money... well what a terrible place to be

Personally I think its fake. It if isn't, good for MS and good luck!

A problem with this controller that no one is looking at is that if Microsoft does release a motion sensing controller for the Xbox 360 it also benefits Nintendo. One of the reasons that 3rd parties have been slow to develop games for the Wii is because of the controller. Developers are still struggling with ways to implement motion controls in their games without having them feel tacked on or just substitutes for button presses. Developers who are developing for Microsoft and using this controller can also port their games over to the Wii and the more developers that are exposed to the controller the more chances that these developers will look at the Wii. Since the Wii mote comes standard and the Wii has a larger install base. This gives developers more opportunity to make more money off of their games and more incentive to develop games for the wii which has low development costs and, as I already stated, a high fan base.
Also the graphics of the Xbox 360 will not matter much because the more developers become exposed to the Wii the more familiar they become with the system and it's capabilities. Ports of HD games will look bad at first but they will get better and start to look better than games like Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3. That will be all some developers need to get casuals and core gamers to buy their games, Remember the PS2.

No, this controller is fake. Microsoft will not do anything that indirectly benefits their competitor. Besides all blogs and rumors containing information of motion sensing controllers for the PS3 and Xbox 360 serve to persuade core gamers who may have purchased a Wii, core gamers who have not purchased a console, or core gamers who have not made up their minds about which console to buy to go and buy the PS3 or the Xbox 360 in anticipation of motion controllers being developed for said consoles. And whenever Sony or Microsoft are contacted for a comment, the standard reply is give "We do not comment on rumors." which just keeps the rumor mill going. I guess the cliche is true. " Any publicity is good publicity."

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

it would be a horribly idea for them...i can see it now the 360s game market will be flooded with cheap wii ports while the wii starts to get the big guns for its self...smooth

Where did Microsoft confirm it?

The result will be Sony outcompeting the Xbox360 in the hardcore market (MGS4, FFXIII news, Resistance2, GT5p patch) AND the Wii completely destroying the Xbox360 in the casual market (easy to understand)

I think you have it backwards and it's the PS3 that is basically being outcompeted.  I mean it's finally brought out a demo of GT5 after the competition released it's flagship product.  FFXIII won't be released for another year, meanwhile Xbox 360 gamers enjoy many RPGs including Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey.  Sony is bringing out major FPSs when Microsoft did that last year.  They were also outcompeted with GTA4 when Microsoft went in and turned it into a multiplatform.  And to add insult to injury they also got exclusive episodic content as well, talk about a major blunder on Sony's part.

So basically that leaves Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet.  How many non-Sony hardcore are really interested in Metal Gear Solid 4?  And as for LittleBigPlanet it's an unproven franchise compared to many of the exclusives on the 360 which have a proven track record.  Not only that but the last gameplay video made the game look like it was extremely frustrating to play.  It remains to be seen just how big that game will become but if the price of the console is still high when the game is released don't expect it to make much of an impact if any.

It's really good that Sony has Blu-Ray in their console for videophiles and the Playstation brand name because otherwise the console likely would have been crushed in it's first year.

Poor legend . Thats all you got? Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey? 2 mediocre games. Just because they are RPG's doesn't mean they are good. LO is just about as good as Folklore. Its a last gen JRPG on a next gen console.

Xbox needs something to give it a boost for 2009 and this is a good move.
If they get it right they can show nintendo and sony a thing or two because neither Nintendo or Sony have managed to really make a premium motion controller or get it working well in many games (Sony especially, though Nintendo are guilty as well) .

i understand sony but nintendo? seriously? are you saying it doesnt work well in games such as mario party 8, zelda tp, metroid prime 3, mario galaxy, mario kart, wii sports, wii play, mario & sonic at the OG. but thats only naming a few. of course there are games where the motion sensing is not that great but you cant expect the wii to perfect every game. i think that nintendo has perfected the wii and the its motion sensing capabilities.

the nintendo wii will outsell the ps3 and the 360 combined by the end of 2008.

PS3 will out sell the 360 june 2010.

GOTY of 2008 is super smash brothers brawl.... hopefully.
