Forums - Gaming Discussion - Gran Turismo Sport Director Axed Career Mode Because Players Aren’t That Into Cars Anymore

I been playing racing games since Pitstop on the Atari. I know all the real world tracks like the back of my hand, and I'm not into cars. Never got into tuning beyond some gear ratio changes and ailerons (I guess spoilers for cars) to increase top speed. Never really cared about all the upgrade components which just meant more work to swap them out to meet the correct performance rating.

Plus what do car upgrades have to do with career mode? A proper career mode would be fine, upgrading the car however always felt like cheating and breaking the game. GT did teach me about the different components in cars, not that I can now find the air filter in my own family car though. I did change the battery a while ago, dropped a wrench in the bottom of the engine housing which was a bitch to fish out. For everything else, the dashboard tells me when to bring it in for what maintenance. It won't be long until cars will drive themselves to the garage at night for servicing :)

What it needs is offline saves. I just lost almost 2 hours of progress due to server maintenance and refusing to reconnect after the server came back.

It doesn't have online saves? That's absolute horse-shit.

I liked learning about cars from games

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

He's probably right possibly going by the internally collected data from more recent GT games but that's still a dumb reason to career mode ...

People need to stop complaining about GT Sport.

Sony has a solution and its called a PS3.

Not really "Into cars" in the manner he is speaking of, I'm not a fanatic but I want a single player progression. It's not like it's exactly hard to throw something together, Project cars had one of the most bare bones single player experiences along with DIRT rally but because everything else worked in those games the bare framework just...worked. In fact going to far with the single player is a downside these days like what codemasters ended up doing to dirt 3 and 4 or how Pcars 2 locking off content kinda made it seem cheaper. Just give us a championship for each car class or even just road, GT3 and LMP. The economy is already there, the UI from sport mode could easily be tweaked, it wouldn't take the full team to start working from the ground up. This is what full on perfectionism gets you, Kojima has the same problem.

Yeah, I don't get how hard it is to throw together a single player experience.

I've played quite a bit of Forza sim games and in a nut shell its just a random track with some random type of car used. Race, get money/xp, repeat.

Simply offering that is motivation to continue playing.

You're joking right? C'moooon...please say you're joking.

Please elaborate. I played a lot of Forza 4, 5, and 6.

That's essentially what the career modes are. Do races with a certain type of car on usually random tracks, earn money, earn XP, buy cars and upgrades.

That's literally what you do albeit with some pretty flashy menus with some British guy describing the cars.

I got a good laugh out of this. I don't think the studio should get cut, just get rid of kaz and appoint someone who actually gives a damn about the games, rather than touring the world every 2 months and doing that GT academy crap.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

What is his evidence? Did he have research groups, ask current and targeted fans? Play time stats regarding career modes for past games?

If he has the data to back up the decision it can make sense, but blanket statements comes off as an excuse to be lazy
