Forums - Gaming Discussion - How often do you local multiplayer?

Please turn off your fanboy blinders and watch this Japanese Sony ad.

At first I was rolling my eyes, but as the ad progressed it managed to make me a bit nostalgic. I don't know if kids gathering around a TV for local multiplayer after school is a thing these days, but it tends to happen when I go to my parents and play Genesis with the nieces and nephews. Do you guys still do local multiplayer? Is it a thing kids do of their own volition, or just for ads?

Around the Network

I play with my gf like twice a week. and with my family from time to time

Loved it. Really great ad.

I still play a lot of local MP (with my wife, some friends and my brother-in-law). I hate when I discover that a game that would be great in local MP only offer online MP.

Every once in a while, with my brothers.

Maybe once a year, at Christmas.

I play local multiplayer every time I have friends or family over. I have been doing this since the 6th generation. Super Smash Bros is the ultimate local multiplayer game. It is why if a game has local multiplayer the value for it goes way up in my eyes.

Also kids still play multiplayer. My nephew and his friends once brought their Xboxes and monitors to play in the same room. I kid you not! I was so shocked when I heard that! Back in my day we just brought controllers and played the game. Nowadays you need a system and a tv!

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

Never.

Okay, maybe not never, but it's very rare. When me and my cousins were still kids, a long time ago, we'd play together pretty often though, but basically that stopped after the 5th, maybe early 6th gen.

Look at my post count. LOOK AT IT

Does this look like a man that can spare people for local multiplayer?

All the time, wish more games had the option. Great evening is put on some pajamas and sit on the couch playing games with my husband.

Well, immediately got rid of the sound, damn anime opening music.

Not as often as i like, my brother isn't crazy about co-op games. Like right now, we're going through cuphead but the difficulty really discourages him so we play it sparingly. I like prefer that games have it when its appropiate. I would love to play Divinity Original Sin in co-op but he's not much into traditional RPGs or any of my friends for that matter.
