Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Exec Responds To Claims That Microsoft Has Too Few Exclusives In 2017

Interesting that they only comment on their holiday lineup rather than the full year. Although even then the lineup is absolute trash. Sim racer? Yawn. Multiplayer only PC shooter? meh. Terrible looking low budget indies? And to make things worse, is a single one of them even exclusive? I don't think so...

Have you forgot that only holidays matter?

This year has been absolutely terrible for Xbox Exclusives. There wasn't one single exclusive that has come out or that will come out this year that I want to play. I don't think that has ever happened in the entire time I've gamed on the Xbox.

Similar things have happened before with Xbox. When the first party output for new ips is under par it would be expected that they struggle if they can't get third party. I mean look at the first year of Xbox, which was pretty much reliant on games like ryse, dead rising and titanfall. Their original Xbox was essentially on life support via PC exclusives and sega games. None of their first party outside of halo, pgr and fable made the cut into the 360 era.

I agree, but at least in the past, there was always a game or two that I wanted to play. This year appears to be the worst for me, although admittedly, it could be that my gaming taste has changed over the years.

So Microsoft's holiday line-up is:

  • A port of an Early Access PC game
  • The 7th installment (10th in you count the Horizon games) in a racing game franchise (also, that quote about Forza is laughable)
  • A sequel to a 64 Metratic rated Oculus Rift game
  • Cuphead, an indie-game (a fantastic one at that according to many people)

Sometimes, the best thing to say is to say nothing at all

Microsoft must be in la la land if they're confused as to why people are saying they have too few exclusives... either that or they're in denial and whenever the subject of exclusives is brought up all the execs put their fingers in their ears and go "blah blah blah blah blah blah"

MS PR without spin and lie isn't MS

I think they have a pretty healthy lineup of games but it would be amazing to see 10+ exclusive games each year, they have the resources to do it.

Ehhh... it's not healthy by traditional console standards. Microsoft has just created a culture of being primarily reliant on third party whether they know it or not. Traditionally third party only should serve on a marketing level to add to the excitement of their first party.

I have yet to see how that is healthy, but maybe different dictionary

As time goes by our tastes do change. You are definitely correct, sir. I'm just worried about the world Microsoft is creating for younger gamers. They are growing up in a world full of Microtransactions and lootboxes and questioning the value of single player games because they cannot master making new ones or even creating a safe culture for single player experiences on Xbox.

I swear, someone shoulf keep that thread in his files and boot it up next year.

THIS is comedy gold, so much deny from the PR.

This doesn't even compare to when Aaron Greenberg said Xbox has the biggest franchises and exclusives at gamescom. I was like, "the money must be good" lol.

How can any journalist listen to someone say that Forza reinvents the genre every year and not pounce all over that?

Make this idiot elaborate. Or just be drinking coffee during the entire interview and spit-take each time bullshit like that is said.

Aaron Greenberg is getting contagious over there at MS

I wish I could disagree, but whenever I read anything from them they seem to have spinned it to make them look good, or at least not as bad, lol.

Worse is that even people that aren't on PR are always on PR mode.

What about it owning the genre? We have several users here that does it even when it is diving in sales.

The reason he has to change year to holiday is exactly why he knows why it's being said and isn't confused at all.

Even talking holiday only it isn't particularly strong either. Forza isn't holiday, neither Cuphead... And even if we count all 4 as she propose the comment from Andrew House of sparse 1st party was in a situation that had more exclusives on the period than this.

But she using the holiday instead of the year is fair on the sense that she is talking about the limited future not the past.

Sounds like Nintendo's interviews during the Wii U days. Lol.
