North America is certainly a volatile region. Nintendo was in 3rd place through 2014, 2015, and 2016, but now they're suddenly 1st again.

Nintendo is back.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Sigh. "Killing it!" is a colloquialism that refers to someone doing excellent at something. The "it" refers to the thing you are doing it. You're completely misunderstanding the phrase and interpreting the "it" as the PS4. A boxer who has won 21 straight bouts is killing it, even if all were by decision. A stock on the market climbing quickly is killing it, even if their competitor's is not falling. Killing it just means doing really well, not necessarily devastating oponents. So yeah, you need to use the correct meanings. And don't challenge the person who studied writing on the meaning of phrases. |
If you say "Switch sales is killing it" I can understand, but this compared to PS4 and even you with "5 months vs 2 months". So on this your killing is in comparison to another thing.

The first Destiny pushed the PS4 above 500k in September 2014, the sequel probably didn't even push it above 300k. More importantly though, Switch is set to be #1 in the USA most of the time in the future. The PS4 inherits the position of the Xbox One that could only win the occasional NPD month. Xbox One is stuck in the mud. |
Not sure why we should consider the sequel to push anywhere near. I wasn't expecting any significant boost from D2.
And it's possible that Switch keeps winning most NPDs.

What? If your using a baseball picking analogy, it woudl go more like this. Nintendo as a pitcher has an ERA of 3.2 and his record is 5 wins 2 losses Sony as a pitcher has an ERA of 4.1 and his record is 2 wins and 5 losses. But the Sony pitcher has one no hitter. Sony had one amazing game, but overall the Nintendo pitcher is the better pick. |
Nope if you are comparing the Switch winning more months but PS4 when winning taking all the difference your analogy doesn't make it true.

Nobody talks about whole year, but about sales until now, and yes, Switch sales are killing it, they are very impressive, Switch outsold PS4 (that is selling great and it is in its best year until now) in 5 of 7 months and done that with big supply problems.
Well said. |
Both you guys come to say the "killing it" isn't compared to PS4 but to Switch success alone, but go again and compare to PS4... zero sense in it.
Saying Switch is doing very good is stating the obvious, saying it is killing PS4 doesn't make sense because PS4 is doing even better than before Switch.

I think the part we need to focus on is the bolded part below: "In September, the Nintendo Switch system was once again the top-selling current-generation console hardware, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. (Photo: Business Wire)" This is NPD, an organization that researches this stuff. They would know a statistic like "2/3 of sales". |
So you want to tell me that NPD was the one doing the announcement and gone and cited themselves? Nope, this is a Nintendo PR using NPD as source.

I think you are right. I expect the PS4 to start a modest decline next year, unless a price cut to 199$ will do unprecedented wonders for a 50$ pricecut, and with the Switch being a fresh console, it should grow next year, so the PS4 will be hardpressed to grab wins.

*facepalm*
The PS4 being the barometer is 1) technically irrelevant and 2) an inevitably since WE DON'T HAVE NUMBERS. It's no different than people say the PS4 is killing it because it is ahead of the PS2 (can't remember if it still is but it was once). No one saying that was expecting a domination of the PS2, like 200m sales. But rather the PS2 being a huge success meant matching or beating it was also a huge success.
The PS4 is a sales machine and is in it's peak year. The Switch matching or beating it is a huge deal. Therefore, "killing it". You just flat don't understand the phrase. Or are digging your heals in and being intentionally contrarian.

If technically irrelevant you can just say "Switch have been winning several NPDs. It is doing great", no need to bring PS4 namely to it to then say it have nothing to do with it.

Bro, why are you doing this to yourself? It's embarrasing....
Nothing Nuvendil said is innacurate.
The Switch is KILLING IT
And in fact even if someone said the Switch is "killing it" in relation to the PS4, it wouldn't be totally innacurate

I don't think any of that conversation was based on precision ... it was based on someone misunderstanding a term
