Forums - Nintendo Discussion - After BotW: Can you still enjoy older Zelda games?

I haven't tried yet, but I know I can because Breath of the Wild wasn't a godsend to me. The older ones still have much better dungeons, which is always my favourite part of Zelda games

Around the Network

I started Link to the past on snes mini recently, so yes. However it's hard to continue with so many other games competing for attention.

Well I enjoyed Windwaker HD on the Wii U(first ever Zelda I played), did not enjoy Majora's Mask on the 3DS because of the screen, it felt so claustrophobic(maybe if there's a chance it would release on the Switch I might enjoy it), then of course BotW which I enjoyed more than both previous Zelda games I played, so it will just depend on how/where I can play it and if the new one is better and bigger than BotW in many ways, then I will definitely enjoy it.

Steam: Lee Roid

Of course! If anything, it makes me like them even more since BotW is my least favorite Zelda of the ones I've played and I miss the old gameplay.

BTW, I also bought the amazon BotW to go with the console gift, whenever I buy that one.
Thinking in getting the SMO bundle that has the red joycons.

Yeah, I also preordered the SMO-bundle at first... I love the "mario red" color of the Joy-Cons, seems to be the same red tone as my 3DS XL.

But €389 (SMO bundle, game only a digital code) or  €325 (Switch + BotW)... for these €64 difference I can buy the retail version of SMO or a pair of red Joy-Cons or a Switch Pro controller.

That's true, for some reason that bundle has no price offer, it's the standard 330 console + 60 game...
You did good with your purchase, with the savings I'd purchase SMO from amazon.fr which is currently at 45eur.

I'll have to look around next week and see if I can find the bundle cheaper at launch :)
When the Splatoon 2 bundle came out, I saw a supermarket that had it at 330. Maybe the same thing will happen again!

I haven't tried it out, but I figure I'd still get the same joy out of them as I did before. I'd likely rank certain games lower than BotW, but they're still fun. They're all still good in their own rite.

I was already having issues with the other 3D Zelda games before Breath of the Wild. But Breath of the Wild allowed me to really see what my issue with them was. Dungeon fatigue. The 3D Zelda games spend a lot of time focused on getting into and then doing the dungeons; the games don’t Feel open and free enough. Breath of the Wild offers a much quicker alternative to the dungeons with the Shrines. Unlike the dungeons, the Shrines don’t require your immediate attention, if you don’t want to do them now - tag them and come back later while you go off and explore the region some more, take down some mini bosses or Moblin/Bokoblin camps, or work on your armour sets, etc.. I found Breath of the Wild was easier to sink 120 hours in than Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, or Wind Waker were to sink in 20.

I am not sure why I find Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask fine... probably nostalgia bias; but honestly, I take issue with some of the dungeons in those games too; I only got to the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time last time I played, I ran out of steam during middle of that one. Link to the Past is never an issue because the dungeons take no longer than BotW Shrines, and the game feels cantered on the overworld.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Thanks! Plus shipping to Germany it's €48.33, but with a free Prime trial the price goes down to €46.33.

Sure. I beat Zelda II at least once a year. I'm not going to stop.

Interesting, I thought it was as open as it could get, since you could go anywhere when you get the Paraglider; and it's pretty open in the sense that you can toy with the physics a lot. But, my question is, how would you do to make it feel more opened? I think that, as for today, this game was unparalelled in this sense.

Well this is nitpicking, but personally I don't like how the game has plot barriers stopping you from getting inside the Divine Beasts without doing their entire quests, or how for example if you go to the Yiga Clan before starting the quest there's just nothing to be found there. It'd be cool if say, you could enter Naboris without doing any of the Gerudo quest, but that means you have to complete the dungeon evading lightning and stuff.

Isn't the whole point of the Divine Beasts Quests that Link needs help to enter them from the decendents of the great champions just as much as they need him to conquer them?  There is a very purposeful sense of teamwork involved in those quests.  The whole point of the Gerudo quest is that Link can't get close enough to Vah Naboris without the help of Riju and the Thunder Helm.  And the other three quests involve similar levels of teamwork.  The story of Breath of the Wild isn't that Link goes it alone and saves all of Hyrule with no help from anyone.  I think the story and game are all the better for that.  The Vah Ruta battle wouldn't have been anywhere near as epic if teaming up with Sidon could be replaced by simply sailing a raft over and climbing inside.  Same goes with all the other quests in my opinion.
