I have a launch model PS4 and I feel it's only a matter of time before it kicks the bucket. It has been randomly spitting out discs and it sounds like a damn banshee when I play Horizon or Destiny 2. I would prefer not to fork over a few hundred for new system so I thought of going digital with my games, would that reduce the wear and tear on my system?

My launch ps4 is still holding strong but it does sound like a banshee in demanding games, like horizon zero dawn or uncharted i need to play with a headset because its very very loud :(

technology can fail, since your ps4 is spitting out discs you could buy your future games digitally, you could also play games from an external harddrive, this might slightly reduce the heat build up in the console

you should also take note to where the console is placed, place it in a wide open space and last you could try to clean the sides, since i think it pulls in air there

It's in a pretty open area, it doesn't scream when AC is on (it's placed near a vent). Would digital games reduce the noise? It would be cheaper to buy digital versions of my games instead of buying a new console.

I had that issue and fixed it by tightening the hidden screw with the disc eject.

Noise issue is not a problem for myself. I always keep a can of air and spray the console once a month.

I even keep my PS4 in a tiny cubby slot of my TV stand without a problem of overheating. Even though it only has a couple inches of open space on the sides and top, it'll stay super quiet. That's because I have a cheap little 4 inch solo person clamp on end table fan that I turn on when I play. It's like 8 bucks (15 for fancier models), and they work really nice for keeping any console clean and quiet.

It's probably just dust. Open it and clear the fans. If it doesn't solve the problem, replace the thermal paste (use the brand Artic Silver).

It may look a bit intimidating if you're not used to messing with hardware, but it's relatively straightforwards. Just a good set of screwdrivers and always remember to discharge static electricity before touching the internals of the console (just touch a wall before opening it, it's enough). To help clear the fan, you can buy anti-static brushes or a canned air spray. They're cheap and you can find them in electronics stores or Amazon.

The disc ejecting is a problem with heat. The button on the OG is too sensitive and the slightly expanding of the case due to heat is enough to "press" it. It seems that is related to one of the rubber feet, that's why Ka-pi96 fixed his problem, he just allowed the rubber foot to get more ventilation (expands less) and also it has an extra direction to expand. However (for both of you), there is a better option to solve this. To sum it up, you can either tighten up a screw inside the PS4 (you'll open it to clean anyway) or you can remove the problematic rubber foot. The link has complete video instructions.

I am also assuming your PS4 is out of warranty or else you would just get a replacement with Sony.

Yeah same here. The eject nub runs along the base of the system, which causes a lot of problems. I opened the system and tightened the manual-eject screw, and also put two pieces of cardboard under the system to fix it.

Eventually I just gave my OG model to my friend and bought a Slim, which has worked great. 

You'd be surprised how much dust can be inside a console and dust is a killer. I went a year without cleaning my OG PS3 and when I opened it up...the horror. Ever since then I air dust/vacuum my consoles/PC on a weekly basis.
