Which sector of videogames do you think has the brightest future?

Virtual Reality 15 13.27%

Augmented Reality 4 3.54%

Cellphones 12 10.62%

Tablets 0 0%

Laptops 1 0.88%

Desktops 6 5.31%

Home Consoles 20 17.70%

Handheld Consoles 4 3.54%

Hybrid Consoles 48 42.48%

Something New (I will discribe in a comment) 3 2.65%

Total:113

VR, simply because it's still near zero thus has the biggest growth potential.

Hybrid consoles can mean anything. Even standalone VR headsets that can cast to a tv for non VR play.

I can't see there being any major growth without major innovations as well, and anything dedicated isn't probably going to be a breakthrough. I answered augmented reality, but it's not necessarily the whole truth either. Everything will become more connected everywhere, and augmented reality is one potential side of that. However, it's not the whole thing. Everything becoming more and more connected and games are no exception, and I don't think the situation is going to change. Instead, games will adapt to the new situation. Of course in short term, there will be other things.

Unlike many others here, I don't think VR is ever going to be a huge thing in gaming. It might eventually become big, but it's expensive and clumsy, which ought to restrict its appeal. It requires dedicated hardware, which limits your ability to take it with you. It also prevents you from seeing what's around you, seriously limits its usage. It also makes controlling games more difficult because you can't see what you're controlling the game with. A major innovation could solve these problems, but as it is, VR isn't an ideal solution for gaming. It could have important use cases outside gaming though.

I don't see how anything other than Cellphones is the answer. There are more people playing games on phones than any other method ever. COMBINED.

The biggest future isn't exactly the brightest one though. Will mobile games ever improve over the microtransaction infested time wasters they currently are? If not then that's hardly a bright future is it?

I took it as more of an industry. Cellphone sector has the best chance to exist as a major player in 30 years. Dedicated consoles will probably not be relevant (or even exist) then.

XR has the furthest to go, so that.
Maybe we can get implants in our eyes or something.

From what I have played of VR: it was the most social experience I have had in games.

Hybrid Consoles!! is the best idea in the video games industry

VR first, although I don't like it.

Then

Desktops. I think in about 40 years consoles will be replaced entirely by desktops.

Then Hybrids. I think that console manufacturers are just desperately clinging for a popular compromise. Consoles used to be the compromise, some may even argue they started as the standard. They were the compromise between very casual gaming and the expensiveness of computer gaming. Eventually they'll have no place in the market, Hybrids will be the last stand and I hope they work out for a while.

Game streaming services...not the future I want, but one that will inevitably happen.

can someone explain to me why people say VR ?

ill say switch is on the right track it can be almost everything from a console hybrid to a laptop and yes even as a VR headset in the near future lol

I think it is a bit unusual people would say VR, it has come and gone multiple times.

And now, with billions of $$$ invested in it yet again, it still has not grown more than a fraction of the size of the Wii U user base (which so many people declaired very very dead...)

Maybe it has potential, but given how much time, research, and money has been thrown at it over the past 30 years, why hasn't that potential come to fruition yet???

Game streaming is another one. We saw both Onlive and GaiKai flounder and then get bought out by Sony, and now Sony has actually been downsizing how many devices they support with PS Now on rather than expanding. I don't know if anyone besides Sony is much of a presence in this space either. It just seems to indicate contraction of that market sector for the forseeable future.

It kind of reminds me of the 3D TV hype companies poured money and marketing into self-proclaiming the next big thing and then it just fizzled...

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, and yes I agree with you, the Hybrid console actually brought me back to buying and playing games after having given up on where everything else was headed.

The future of gaming remains mobile gaming for a long time and I don't like it one bit.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
