I literally don't know how to ponder this comment Have I been too blunt? I may have. Should have written this in 1st person.

I might add how I would classify the Zelda OSTs, in my own opinion:

1) Majora's Mask
2) A Link Between Worlds / Ocarina of Time
3) Oracle of Seasons (curious enough, I really like the music in this Oracle game)
4) Breath of the Wild / Twilight Princess
5) Wind Waker
6) Skyward Sword

So Breath isn't my favorite soundtrack but it would be far higher up than SS. They should put Ryo Nagamatsu for the next game - he's a wonderful composer.

Yeah, I mean you just listed dozens of songs from each game saying "these are the great ones, the others aren't" and stuff like that as if your opinion wasn't debatable. But, if we're going all out with the opinions, I'll rank my favorite Zelda soundtracks too..:

1. Skyward Sword
2. Breath of the Wild
3. The Wind Waker
4. Majora's Mask
5. Spirit Tracks
6. Ocarina of Time
7. A Link to the Past
8. A Link Between Worlds

Those are the soundtracks I really like, the others I think are only good at best. Also, I'd say there's quite a big gap between #2 and #3, and very small gaps between everything else.

I listed what I considered to be the catchy songs in each game, but it's up to debate. My opinion is no law. Skyward and Breath shares a lot in common: they both have at times very atmospheric or background tracks. Calm, quiet, not always memorable (by it I mean not bearing catchy hooks that helps you point them out quickly).

I understand I've been a bitch to Skyward xD Interesting choices you have there.

I haven't played the game but that was my impression when people were posting the sountrack here prior to release. I'm probably just used to more bombastic JRPGs soundtracks or high octane stuff and a good chunk of the BotW tracks felt a bit too subtle and skeletal for my taste. It's not bad, but for my personal taste, i'd want a bit more fanfare.

"Trick shot? The trick is NOT to get shot." - Lucian

Not lackluster but not as strong as the rest of the game.

Shiekah Tower is one of my favourite themes in the entire series, absolutely magical.

I actually think it conveys the setting quite well, in that post-apocalyptic kind of way. Like the Hylian civilisation at the time, it's minimalistic, a whisper of it's former self, yet at the same time conveying a picturesque nature style.

Not really i enjoyed the music. I loved the hyrule castle remix. It seemed ok overall.

When it comes to this game’s soundtrack, I find listening to the tracks in isolation and hearing them in the game to be very different experiences. For example, when just listening to the Sheikah Tower theme on its own, it feels a bit lackluster and unmemorable. Listening to it while finishing my climb up the tower and then looking around the map, however, makes me appreciate the track a lot more. This game’s soundtrack just feels a lot more situational to me, rather than instantly catchy tunes around every corner.

Yes and no. Yes, in that you probably won't find a lot of BotW songs in the next Zelda orchestral medley. No, in that the songs are suited perfectly for the game's vastness and isolation. It's an ambient score designed to evoke a mood.

I think the soundtrack of BoTW is great for the game it was for. For a game that is open-world with isolation, calmness, etc., the music fits within the situation in the game. The devs and producers wanted this by design. Some of the tracks that really stand out include Rito Village, Hyrule Castle, Stable, Shrine, Goron City, Gerudo Town, and Tarry Town (the development of the song as the town develops was pretty darn cool). Even Temple of Time, while slow, was haunting in a sense, illustrating the ruins of a time past.

Plus, seeing the development of the music and sound through the Zelda Breath of the Wild Development videos showed how much was put into every detail of this game. Whatever your opinions are for this game, you cannot deny how much Nintendo and the developers put that much detail into their big games.

IMO virtually every Zelda soundtrack is lacking with the exceptions of ALTTP, ALBW, and OOT. They all have a few gems, but none of them are all that great to listen to as a whole.
