Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Aonuma has no idea where Breath of the Wild fits in the timeline

I don't see why there even needs to be a timeline, it's not like every game has to be... linked.

... Okay, terrible pun, I'll leave now.

LOOOOOL

Can't call it a reboot, too many references to past games. I call Dragon Break, where each timeline eventually reaches the same outcome due to fate and all that jazz. Well over 10,000 years is plenty of time to spin that IMO, and the best way to start fresh without throwing out old lore.

Tineline contradictions are just anomalies from the three timelines bleeding into eachother. History in one might be legend in another, so on and so forth. It really does make the most sense.

How deep is the lore tho?

I only have played Ocarina of Time, which is one of my most beloved games ever, but i thought that the story was like: "You are the hero, the princess is kidnapped and you have to rescue her, the end". kinda like Mario games.

Ive never seen anyone calling bullshit for Mario Galaxy for being in space and not in mushroom kingdom!

People who wonder about whether or not anyone actually cares about the Timeline must never have witnessed a timeline debate...
That shit could get pretty intense once upon a time...

And @ThisGuyFooks to answer your question, the life is actually quite shallow compared to similarly iconic universes, though that's not to speak of the quality of the series...

Have a nice day...

If you read the Hyrule Historia and really delve into the lore of each game, it does go far deeper than you would think.  It is simple enough that the timeline is not needed, but deep enough that we can talk theories for days.

I've always considered the Zelda timeline to be bullshit. They just re-tell the same story in a slightly different way and setting because story is really not the point of a Zelda game.

Ocarina of Time is actually where the shit goes mental. It break into three timelines, one where Link dies (A Link to the Past), one where Link returns to being a child (Majora's Mask) and where he stays an adult (Wind Waker). Had to do with time travel etc.

Then why the fuck did you guys make a fucking book!?

Except the story in Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, BotW, Four Swords Adventures, Adventure of Link, the Oracle games, Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, and Botw are nothing alike as far as the main plot goes.  Gameplay mechanics sure, but the lore itself is unique with each game.

While Ocarina, Link to the Past, Link Between Worlds, and Twilight Princess are very similar, the background lore is totally different as well (particularly in TP).

Sorry but I have always found those who say each game is a retelling of the same story to be someone who knows far less about the lore itself than they like to think.  Yes gameplay is first, but the lore is still very present and deeper than many realize.

I'm not a fan of the Zelda timeline theory.

But since BOTW's map is basically the ruins of Hyrule, it's probably the latest in the timeline.
