Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Aonuma has no idea where Breath of the Wild fits in the timeline

There is a Zelda timeline? Please tell me there isn't.

Not only there is a Zelda timeline, but the world is divided between the people who believe there's only one possible line, and the ones that believe after Ocarina of Time three different possibilities exist.

The official zelda timeline is just fan service, and i'm ok with that.I don't want they to be restricted by something so trivial when making a new game.Just make your thing and people will find a way to fit it in their little fanfics.

There are enough clues to suggest Breath of the Wild takes place a long, long time after every other Zelda game (especially from the stones telling the history of the Zora), but there's also stuff that contradicts any notion of parallel, divergent timelines (Twilight Princess and Wind Waker seemingly co-exist in this world, for example). None of that ruins things for me. Zelda is a series of legends, after all, and the game's narratives are playing with that idea more and more since Skyward Sword.

Ugh, they need to just come out and say there really is no timeline at all. Period.

Thats basically what they did, by saying its not planned out or taken into account at all.

Not too bothered, i'd rather they just make a game without restricting themselves by a timeline or something.

This pretty much confirms the timeline is bollocks. Every game is it's own thing, with just a few of them connecting.

It's too late for that. They published an entire book about it. Anyway, in an earlier interview, Aonuma said that the game was asked if the game was set before or after Ocarina of Time and without hesitation, he said it was set after. So that narrows it down.

I feel like it follows the NES original... but that's only because I've played I, and II

Who cares about timelines

Good. Aonuma is finally showing some signs that he is grown man and does not care about stupid things such as the timeline in a video game series. Anyone older than 10 who cares about this, needs help.
