Forums - General Discussion - Former Naughty Dog Employee Says He Was Sexually Harassed

Unlike the Weinstein thing where theres a lot of documented evidence of it
happening. It seems to me this is out of the blue. Maybe the Hollywood thing gave him courage to speak out. But unfortunately, he lacks a lot. His story itself is very... barebones

So they are Naughty Dog for a reason.

If it ends up being true, why not be mad at ND too? They let it happen didn't they?

This is quite the jump. You have zero idea who knew outside of the person who comitted the crime and the HR employee.

Maybe more knew, maybe none knew.

No wonder Sony wanted to silence him, this can't be very good PR for them. To be fair they were assholes in this situation, so they probably deserve any backlash they get from it.

Yup, the possibility of some ppl knowing = the entirety of Sony. well done.

But they offered him a 20 thousand payout to keep his mouth shut. No way would that money would be given out without some sort of higher up at the Playstaion division knowing about it. I didn't mean literally the entirety of Sony and every person there, and this is something that could cause damage to the Sony the brand, which is why they wanted to pay so much so he wouldn't say anything. Whoever was involved took the wrong approach and him speaking out about it, is what they get for handling it this way.

its probably true... this kind of thing happens occasionally where you get a power differential, as we've seen in other cases recently, i wouldn't be surprised if its also happened at microsoft and also nintendo at some point and i would be surprised if this is the only case

the thing a lot of people seem to be missing is that its not really something that is ever going to go away, its kind of a negative consequence of sexual interplay between people - those who have more power are occasionally going to leverage that power over others

Ohhh great, this whole thing reminds me of Michael Jackson for some reason. And I for one will always believe he was innocent. But look what happened to his reputation. I think someone here could potentially be pissed off at Sony and want to damage their image. And this now could very well happen.
I'm thinking there's no real bad guy here. There might have been some minor disagreement that turned into more than what it actually was. So, someone took their anger a bit far and now we have this in the public eye.

That's what I'm thinking. I hope Neil Druckman has something to say about this or some of the other big guys at Naughty Dog. I'm curious what their say on the matter will be.

Seems really fishy but could be true. I'll wait on more info before I believe it or not.

Some folks think he must tell who he/she is but I guess he won't

Been reading the comment sections on a few news sites regarding this story and I just want to bury my head in sand in shame that I share the same species with some of these idiots.

While I believe harassment of any kind should get zero tolerance, I also believe in the burden of proof lying on the accuser. You are, after all, innocent until PROVEN guilty. And if the first to hear about an abuse is the internet...well...

Yeah, we need to be supportive of victims, but not blindly trusting of their narrative unless they can back it up with a bit more than just a twitter message. Accusing someone of harassment / rape / mean talking years after the fact leads us into this really awkward situation where the accuser can't prove the accused did it, and the accused can't prove he didn't do it, in which case we're up to "the word vs the word" and the result is damaged public image for everyone, especially once it goes viral. The general public likes its pound of flesh and it doesn't matter who it rips it out of.
This sort of thing would go over a lot better if we could, as a society, distance ourselves from the idea of "I'm too ashamed or afraid to come out with an accusation because of various circumstancial things". The real cancer is that people are afraid that the instutions which should normally protect their rights, will actually end up harming them...and so, years pass and something happens and suddenly everyone's a victim of something because someone else decided they'd be brave about their experience.
And who the fuck do you believe then?
The supposed victims? We've been reading of plenty of false rape claims for years now and how the term "rape" itself has become a bastardisation of its original self.
The supposed perpetrators? Plenty of big names have got away with despicable acts, that's no secret and no conspiracy theory.

Sorry for the rant, had it simmering in me for a while...

The NeoGAF thread gave me cancer. Good thing VGC is more level-headed.

If the story is true, sony is a monster for trying to silence the employee
