Well, to be fair:
a) Aleppo is a lot less obscure than the Virgin Islands. Aleppo has 20 times as much inhabitants as all three territories of the virgin islands (british, american and spanish) together.
b) Actually the virgin islands are political kinda complicated with the three different parts. Sure, Trump is president over two of the parts (the head of the third is Queen Elisabeth). But still it is kinda complicated.
c) I'm sure Gary Johnsons chances to be elected weren't much impacted by this.
d) Everyone is laughing all the time at Trump already.
That doesn't change the fact that Trump is a moron. But Americans elected him. Like they did before with morons (may I say Dubya).
