Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why i believe Animal Crossing will come in 2019.

I'm feeling less and less sure about Pokemon actually making it for 2018. I mean I feel like it's just going to be too big of an undertaking making the transition to a home console for GF to not need extra dev time. Prime 4 is possibly for December, but unlikely. So if neither of those can make 2018, then Nintendo will make sure Animal Crossing does because the dev time for that shouldn't be too long. I'd say 2018 is a safer bet than 2019 for it.

I agree that Nintendo is trying to avoid cannibalizing the 3DS, but I think you're looking at it wrong. If what you're saying was true, Nintendo wouldn't have released Mario Kart 8 because Mario Kart is also on the 3DS. More likely, Nintendo is avoiding putting games that have been on the 3DS like Mario Maker and Smash Bros as these are the same game on the system. Animal Crossing (like Mario Kart) would be a wholly different game than what is available on the 3DS.

On the topic of teams, yes, Splatoon and Animal Crossing were made by the same teams. There was a reorganization, so it may be different. That said, teams can work on multiple games at the same time. Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer came out in 2015, the same year as Splatoon. If anything, 2018 would be close to 3 years, so its not unreasonable to think Animal Crossing is on the way.

Well they released them far enough apart for it not to be an issue but are we talking about Mario kart 8 or 8D? If it's MK8 then i'm pretty sure the Wiiu  is different enough to make the titles indistinguishable enough from each other. However MK8D is portable too. I think Nintendo saw that release as far away enough from  7 release to lessen any cannibalisation effects.

If that's the case, then wouldn't the new Animal Crossing game be released far enough apart from the 3DS one. New Leaf came out in 2013 I beleive. Happy Home Designer in 2015. 2018 would be about 3 years. This would be the same game between MK7 and MK8. I don't see the issue then.

Like i said before in this thread, i'd be happy with 2018 anyway. It was more of a timing thing, which made me think 2019. Not sure if Nintendo stick to rigid time spaces between their franchise releases.

You timing was based on Nintendo not wanting to cannibilize the 3DS, but you admit that Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 were OK because they were different enough. Why wouldn't the timing be right for Animal Crossing in 2018. I don't think you have a great argument.

Uh yeh just noticed what your point was about. Well, there's no way Happy home designer would cannibalise or be cannibalised by any new mainline Animal Crossing  entry. It's a completely different type of game!
