Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why i believe Animal Crossing will come in 2019.

I think we will see the same thing we seen this year. One or two big games from Nintendo a month, surrounded by third parties that braved up and jumped in, as well as the indies.

I think we see Animal Crossing for smartphones (since it was supposed to be released already I believe...) either Holidays this year or early next year, Pikmin (which they have been working on for a while), a true tactical Fire Emblem, Smash Bros (which was rumored by many even before the Switch released), Yoshi and Kirby filling in somewhere, and Animal Crossing in Fall to Holiday 2018 riding on the hopeful success of the smartphone game released earlier that year.

I think 2019 is too late for Animal Crossing especially with a mobile game that has been worked on for such a long time especially if they look to ride on the back of the mobile game being released.

Oh, i agree that the Switch game will be released just after the mobile game, i'm just of the opinion that the mobile game will be delayed until very late 2018.

Whenever Nintendo launches the Animal Crossing Mobile will give us an idea on when the next Animal Crossing will launch. Going by how we have no idea on when the Animal Crossing Mobile will come out then it is safe to say Animal Crossing might take longer than expected.

I still think the we have a bigger chance on Animal Crossing coming in 2019 then 2018 since the Splatoon team just got done with their game.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

We will be kept up to date on stuff like that on Directs too, so eventually we will have a better idea.

My friend, you have forgotten something.

Splatoon 1.5, as they call 2 in some circles, was not a hugely different game. It was likely not as huge an undertaking as the Zelda team going from Skyward to Breath of the Wild. They might have had to put in less time, and given also how early on and long we'd been seeing trailers of the game it was likely one of the earlier finished products for the Switch.

How dare you insult Splatoon 2!

Anyway I see your point. However do not forget that they still have to support Splatoon 2 with new content for about a year. That will keep a few resources busy. So the only way I can see Animal Crossing come out next year and say wiith 100% certainty is if they had two teams i.e handheld and home console teams. However the Animal Crossing spinoffs came out in 2015. My prediction is holidays 2018 to early 2019. I expect it to be announced in E3 2018. If Nintendo has some other big game like 2D mario then Nintendo might delay Animal Crossing just to fill up 2019's early year.

If I had to put it in percentages on what the chances are for what year they will release them game it will be 20% chance to release in  2018.  80% chance to release in 2019.

Nintendo have said it themselves. The Switch is a hybrid. They have admitted it is a replacement for the Wii u but not for the 3ds. However, they are not gonna let the 2 cannibalise each others' sales indefinitely.

So far the Switch seems to  have been marketed towards young adults/20+ and older. Seems like a departure from the family and child friendly Nintendo consoles from the past. The 1st party releases seem to back this up too. Blockbuster AAA home console on-the-go type titles. However, there is no way Nintendo is going to give up on a large part of its potential audience.

My prediction is simple. They will quietly drop the 3ds in late 2018 and then we will start to see more "handheld-like" game releases. Such as:- Mario and Luigi, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Paper Mario and..... Animal Crossing. Also it will be around the time that Pokemon lands on a "home" console for the first time. These 2 handheld behemoths will be among the first, sometime in 2019 to go after the handheld crowd who will be searching for something to  replace their 3ds's with. Of course, among that crowd will be children and family-orientated gamers. Slam dunk Nintendo! Get the hardcore on board first, then chase all the others once you have discontinued the 3ds. Now i know the 3ds is considerably cheaper but i believe part of Nintendo's strategy to catch all of the hanheld crowd too will coincide with either a price cut or a different/cheaper Switch Sku.

Just my opinion so please don't bash. (Too hard, anyway!)

I agree that Nintendo is trying to avoid cannibalizing the 3DS, but I think you're looking at it wrong. If what you're saying was true, Nintendo wouldn't have released Mario Kart 8 because Mario Kart is also on the 3DS. More likely, Nintendo is avoiding putting games that have been on the 3DS like Mario Maker and Smash Bros as these are the same game on the system. Animal Crossing (like Mario Kart) would be a wholly different game than what is available on the 3DS.

On the topic of teams, yes, Splatoon and Animal Crossing were made by the same teams. There was a reorganization, so it may be different. That said, teams can work on multiple games at the same time. Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer came out in 2015, the same year as Splatoon. If anything, 2018 would be close to 3 years, so its not unreasonable to think Animal Crossing is on the way.

Given Splatoon 2 is my second most played Switch game (behind Zelda), I have no problems with it.

I was just using the criticisms of the title to argue in favor of Animal Crossings 2018.

I don't really see any reason why a new AC would take that long to develop. As pointed out, it's been quite some time since New Leaf released. So if they've been working on the next installment, I think it should be close to completion, soon enough for a 2018 release. If they did do 2019, it'd probably be in the 1st or 2nd quarter. As for the 3DS, I figure Nintendo's already moved on from that. Any other games coming out on that will likely be small size ones from 3rd party and maybe Nintendo as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did come out in 2019

That said, Fire Emblem is a 'handheld' game and it's coming out in 2018, so that handheld theory may not be the best explanation.

I do think we will get one in 2018

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I think it'll probably be 2018 largely because I think a lot of the game is already complete. It probably started development as Animal Crossing for Wii U ages ago. They made the HD assets for Animal Crossing already.

Switch will see Smash Bros, Animal Crossing, and maybe things like Luigi's Mansion 3 and perhaps Pokemon next year.
