I think MS put too much weight on One X. 4K gaming is still niche and the current gen PS4 Pro and One X will act as stepstones for future consoles that will run 4K/60Hz. Effectively current gen is just creating gamebase for next gen. So I dont see MS bringing anything which would spark the Box sales in US. Recent stats are terrible.

Just a simple question. According to VGC (as of 19th August 2017), the PS4 leads by 2.5 million units and probably sits at around 3 million right now. Is it possible for the XB1 to catch the PS4 in the US?

With the amount of exclusives coming out and especially GT Sport?! Highly unlikely

I think more realistic question would be

You think MS has learned from this gen and will be competitive next gen? You know by probably making games.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

The PS4 could stop selling and it still wouldn't catch up in any reasonable time frame. By the time XB1 did catch PS4 if it achieved this task, PS5 would already been announced or released. Think about how much XB1 would have to outsell PS4 by every month. It could sell holiday 2014 numbers this year and the sales gap will still be over 2M come January 2018. Now think about how XB1 usually sells outside the holiday.

The generation is already won.

This was about the US only though.

I can even see it get close to overtaking it there, for a while around X1Xs launch. A lot of XBox fans, who were disappointed with the power and constantly getting necked for it, will replace their old X1s. I don’t think it will last though. There are just too many console sellers on the way for PS4.

Also there are already the first deals, like putting 4 old games in and sell it for the same price, as recently seen in the UK. I actually expect Sony to counter with a price drop on both consoles. MS will have to drop the 500 price soon, just like they did with the X1. It’s just too much of a distance to all the other consoles.

My post was about the U.S.

I don't see what MS could do to shrink the gap far enough where it can be effective. They will have to put up insane numbers outside the holidays and PS4 would have to stay flat or be down YOY. A year where Sony is releasing a bunch of their exclusives.

it can beat ps4 easily if ms sell Xbox one for 50$ or even 100$ less than ps4.also US is Xbox strongest market and PlayStation weakest.in terms of popularity in the US nintendo and xbox is kinda equal but playstation way less popular.

So this black friday when PS4 goes to 199$... there will be a 99$ Xbox One S?

If that happends, yeah that ll probably put xbox ahead for the holidays.

Considering last generation, I see what you're coming from but I don't think I'd refer to PlayStation as being "way less popular" than Xbox in the US. Last generation was the exception rather than the rule.

Just look at the top 10 best selling home consoles in the US:

PosPlatformNorth America
1 PlayStation 2 (PS2) 53.65
2 Xbox 360 (X360) 49.11
3 Wii (Wii) 45.38
4 PlayStation (PS) 38.94
5 Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) 33.49
6 PlayStation 3 (PS3) 29.42
7 Atari 2600 (2600) 23.54
8 Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) 22.88
9 PlayStation 4 (PS4) 21.68
10 Nintendo 64 (N64) 20.11

PS4 will certainly end up somewhere in top 5 making PlayStation take 3 of the top 5 best selling home consoles in the US. I'd maybe give the edge to Nintendo if we include handhelds but I wouldn't say PlayStation is "way less popular" than Nintendo let alone Xbox.

It's rolstoppable impossible.
