Forums - Gaming Discussion - How Blizzard ruined gaming, now every game has lootboxes

oooooooh! So THIS is where the lootbox comments are coming from. I was wondering why everybody was randomly mentioning them in other threads.

? What the hell is a loot box?

I wonder how gamers feel about Lootboxes in real life.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

well ...i still don't know what they are. Plus its easy to not know about them. As I usually ignore games I am not interested in as well as most of the complaining gamers and forum dwellers do.

Meh. Sometimes I'd rather pay to get what I want rather than invest the time to get what I want.

First we have the new Shadow of Mordor having singleplayer pay to win lootboxes and even hiding the true ending behind grinding. Then Forza Motosports 7 followed,  and now from the looks of it so will the latest Assasins creed and the disgusting model for Starwars Battlefront 2.

And we have thank it all to blizzard and everyone who defended Overwatchs microtransactions. Its just scins, it isnt effecting gameplay, yade yade. It doesnt matter if it is skins or pay to win. Why are we playing games in the first place? Its because to have fun, but how we have fun? One part of it is the gameplay which in turn is massivley effected by beating it and unlocking things in the first place. Skins used to be for free, later you had to pay for them as DLC but now we have spend money in oder gamble for them? Or now spending money in order to gamble for pay to win microtransaction?

Its redicolous, and people complain about DOA5s 1000$ massive DLC, At least with that you can pick and choose what ever you want of what is offered (DOA5 is pretty much free to play now too), yourent forced to gamble for costumes. Infact its much much cheaper to just buy a costume than to gamble for your money. Gosh do you see why i hate this company? I knew something was wrong with how massivley posstive overwatch was treated when this game came out, it was a 60$ game with no singleplayer and now i learn how unbelivable evil their microtransactions were on top of that, not by being interested into blizzards latest game but seeing how their method is spreading to other games.

And how is it even allowed for game to have such a system? In the UK games who are gambing emulators like a roloute or poker game using fake money are rated 18 from what i know? How come Overwatch is rated 12 in all of europe? It should be rated 18 or straight banned for mixing something like a cartoony shooter with a hidden gambling system requiring real money?

Its vible to any expert, just look at how lootboxes are designed espacially in Overwatch, they try to give us a feel of excietment and value. In Overwatch for some reason plenty of colors are chosen, this is not just some random design choice but rather its trying to mimick the enviorment near a real slot machine inside a casino.

I hate Blizzard. They are the one who popularized it in the AAA industry, they are responsible and i will continiue to point it out.

I'm guessing you have never played / heard of FIFA Ultimate team mode before.

Sony want to make money by selling art, Nintendo want to make money by selling fun, Microsoft want to make money.

Bethesda ruined gaming with horse armor DLC.

Bruh lootboxes started waaaaaay before Overwatch.

For 60$ / 70€ games? no

And those games were PC and mobile only. Just shows you how such bad bussines practices are coming from both systems to console gaming and not the other way around how people claim it to be

Who claims it came from the console side of things?

What alternative do you think would make a better game? Buy a game like Overwatch, have all the skins in it unlocked on day one? take away the cosmetic bonus's which you earn while you play through ranked modes.

If the loot box/leveling system wouldn't be in overwatch they would need to invest a ton more effort into creating some form of other system such as a single player campaign to give people "progression" and yeah... that's not what Overwatch was designed to be, that wasn't what was required to make Overwatch the game of the year last year.

If you think it would be better that you got the skin you wanted on day one then it wouldn't be in any way special or cool to have it, since it would not have been a reward for doing anything.

This isn't a new thing though, if you go back to the Super Nintendo and you want the content from it all open, you need to sit down and play it for hours, it's all available in OW for free, just play the game and get the items. Or just play the game and don't get the items, either way, they're cosmetic items in a FPS title. for all the difference those make.

One system better is getting points and spend points on what YOU WANT,not some bullshit system that is random. I dont understand people defending loot boxes to be honest, is a system only good for publishers, a system designed to milk money out of players.

You can do that in Overwatch, alongside items from boxes every item (except for player icons) are available to purchase for between 25-3000 gold, getting a Legendary gold drop gives 500g (1 in 13 boxes have a legendary item) so there is luck to getting what you want... or if you don't get it you can buy the items you want specifically.

I don't understand people attacking a system they don't know.
