Forums - Movies & TV - Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Official Trailer 2

In my opinion nothing to be hyped about. This looks meh... Unfortunately after Disney took over the franchise, it started to lose its appeal for me. Episode 7 was nowhere near the level of Star Wars movies. It was okay at best. Rogue one was a little better but still I can’t even say it’s at least good. New Battlefront games suck. The second one though looks way better than the first and probably I will buy it on sale. So I don’t have high expectations for this movie.

Won't watch it as I might see it in the cinema but this is the thing. Might. Ep 7 was all hype with nothing to show. It played on nostalgia, had large plot holes and silly science which put me off. I expect more of the same, infact I expect a bad remake of Empire Strikes Back with no new thinking.

It's all about merchandise and licencing. Gotta sell the kids the toys. :P

Hmm, pie.

Totally agree. That’s what I expect as well which is the shame because I’m a huge fan of original trilogy.

Fair point but I'm not really interested in hearing from another positive (unless this is a more in-depth thread on the movie), then it's just a giant circle jerk. This is a bit of a reaction thread to a new trailer so it's far more engaging to hear from both sides. I wanna hear why you didn't like it, there may be things I missed that are glaring issues, inconsistences, etc. I commented to the response that grabbed my attention because it had such a different reaction from my own.

The trailer is too overdramatic. A lot of what's going on seems like over-acting, which is an idea that will probably be made fun of, but has been done in movies and is a pretty valid complaint. Most of all though the most dramatic events are being publicized before the movie comes out ... which I don't think is a good thing and if i remember correctly Episode 7's  trailers did a good job of only slightly hinting at what events will happen in the film. I feel like the fact that a lot of the "twists" are in the trailer makes it too obvious that these twists will be mundane or easy to predict.

In general though, the biggest reason I don't think it looks good is that it's a sequel to Episode 7. They'd have to make everything significantly better to improve it over the last film, and that would take a lot of work, dedication, and creativity. Something that hollywood is not known for. This still looks to action oriented for me, personally. But it is nice to see a focus on character growth, as cringy as these Rei scenes look already.

Sorry for this late-ass response, I'm terrible at getting back to people. It honestly doesn't look like over-acting to me but I'm not crazy about Rey herself. Her facial expressions are very goofy and off-putting but i think everybody else is doing a great job, might be more apparent while in the movie. I do agree that trailers are releasing WAAAY too much info. Like the scene with Kylo and Leia was a bit much, just show Kylo joining the fray and Leia's sensing him, that's all we needed but the rest of that scene made way too many implications. My hope is that they have so serious reveals coming and this is just the tip of the iceberg stuff.

I liked TFA alot, i honestly think the only thing they need to improve on is Rey as a character and differentiating themselves away from the original trilogy. This has some rethreads of Empire Strikes Back, but less than how obvious TFA was a copy of A new hope. I hope you still give it a shot though, i think this will improve on TFA, take it from a fan who saw the original trilogy for the first time 1 month before TFA released.

Perhaps it will make up for the last film (not the offshoot) but I'm not gonna hold onto any hope for it. If they do anymore stuff that breaks star wars canon that results in plot holes then I'm done with the films.
