Forums - Gaming Discussion - Cuphead's controls suck

Is Cuphead hard?

Yes 42 49.41%

No 27 31.76%

Other 16 18.82%

Total:85

Everyone says that after sucking at the tutorial.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

It takes some time getting used to, but they are fine imo.

That's cool and all, but what about, you know, the jump button?

Sounds to me like the aiming is the best it can be for the kind of game this is with the type of controller it uses and you really haven't thought this through for more than five minutes, something the developers clearly have done.

The jump button is fine where it is, even in my suggested layout (and by the way, I did consider the jump button).

The developers could have it so your aiming direction is locked with the right stick, or the aim is reset, and snapped to Cuphead's movement direction when jumping.

Easy.

Another way of placing the jump button would be to have it where the change weapon currently is, as that is quicker to access, though it would likely be too obscure for the end user.

In that layout you would put the change weapon on the A button.

After I did a remap of some buttons (lock left trigger, shoot right trigger), I have no complaints about the controls. A button for locked 8-way fire is pretty intuitive. Putting the dash on the X button (square in my case since I use a PS4 controller) helps tremendously too.

Yeah. I pretty much edited my controls on my xbox one controller to the way I thought made more sense. I haven't had any issues since.

It is worth praising the fact that they make remapping the controls relatively easy.

If Nintendo had of made this game, I would be out of luck.

I think they're totally fine. I'm enjoying it a lot actually . They're the usual for these type of games. And they balanced them enough to make the game beatable, challenging and fun.

My problem is not that it is too hard, rather that the controls are poorly designed.

Hm, interesting. So what you mean is that you don't mind the game being hard, you're just annoyed at being unable to git gud.

I can get used to the controls, but that is not my point.
A game's controls should exist to help players, play the game.
Cuphead's, in my opinion exist to make it harder (if only accidentally).

Players should not fight controls, only enemies.

Okay. But seriously though, what's up with your font?

Jealous?

I don't like VGC's editor, so I type in other programs, paste it into VGC, then format.

So I just played some Cuphead, the Windows Store, Steam, Xbox Exclusive.

Not the point of the thread, but needs a correction. It's also available on GOG, as well as some places that sell Steam keys.
