Forums - Politics Discussion - In California, it is no longer a felony to knowingly infect someone with HIV

I read the OP and just waited where the dig at liberals will be. Turns out I had to read until the end to see that nonsense. But I guess this thread wouldn't exist if it wasn't for that last sentence.

Though aren't it republicans to leave government out of our lives? What is it the government's business to tell me who I can give my virus to? #lessgovernment #maga

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Isn't that effectively murder?

No, HIV is a treatable disease these days. Still, infecting somebody with a disease is very, very, very, very shitty, and should be a felony. Especially when we consider some of the minor things that pass as felonies in many states.

It's still murder. HIV will kill everyone who gets it regardless of treatment. It's just a matter how long it takes to kill you.

USA really is something else, how does this even happen?
Dear citizens of US and A, I am sorry for your inept country. After these past few years USA will probably be the first country awarded with a Darwin Award.

Disgrace. Nothing but it.

This is one of those rare occasions where everyone on this forum agrees.

This change to law is absolute bullshit.

You have a point there. It's very very rare.

“Today California took a major step toward treating HIV as a public health issue, instead of treating people living with HIV as criminals

A case study in modern political rhetoric: "people living with HIV" were not treated as criminals, a strawman. People intenionally or neglectingly infection others was the target of the law.

Except Republicans voted against this...

Oh I didn't notice that gem.

Over sensitive much? How is stating there must be a limit to how liberal you can be a nonsense dig? I think quite a few people in this thread would consider themselves on the left or liberal and they are disgusted by it. If anyone is taking a nonsense dig at someone, it's you.

Maybe he has HIV?

Or paid by the Anti-HIV drugs-producing companies?

Don't have sex in California, kids.

Honestly, I think you may have found the answer. I know it's a horrible thought and conspiratorial, but what other answer is there? The one they gave rings hollow, since people with HIV weren't pariahs and the former law didn't apply to them if they unknowingly passed the disease. It specifically targets the sick fuckers who want to harm others by purposefully giving them HIV without their knowledge, which if not caught in time would be death sentence.

Progressivism. The only way forward for a disoriented person.

Don't try to use this to generalise your propaganda.

This is a well intended but bad measure. This has nothing to do with Progressivism. Without progress you would still be living in caves.

I know not everyone reads the articles, but this is what he said to people actually commiting the fellony:

Anderson said the answer could be to extend tougher penalties to those who expose others to other infectious diseases.

So, he is actually defending harsher penalties to those commiting the felon. He does want to lift the stigma, wich is understandable, but i'm not sure prudent.

Why is everyone getting their panties in a wad over HIV though? There are other STDs that could lead to death like syphilis if left untreated.  We must not afford special treatment towards just one STD.  STDs for all and all for STDs!
