Forums - Politics Discussion - In California, it is no longer a felony to knowingly infect someone with HIV

The GAF thread on this is downright disgusting. Multiple people in there saying it's ok to not tell people because the chances of getting HIV from a person taking treatment is "practically zero" or whatever technical speak the CDC said on the matter. Plus, hey, you know, it doesn't kill you any more*!

* - so long as you can afford the "HIV cocktail" you have to take daily without missing doses. oh, and I hope the drugs work on you, there aren't many alternatives. oh and I hope you like frequent doctor visits to make sure your viral load stays low.

Oh, and you better hope that the Human Immunodeficiency Virus doesn't mutate enough to sustain restsance against the HIV cocktail!

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

California seems to be a bit screwed up these days. Just a few days ago, they enacted legislation to become a "sanctuary state". I understand people's support for progressive values, but this is going a bit too far.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Isn't that effectively murder?

No, HIV is a treatable disease these days. Still, infecting somebody with a disease is very, very, very, very shitty, and should be a felony. Especially when we consider some of the minor things that pass as felonies in many states.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Friday that lowers from a felony to a misdemeanor the crime of knowingly exposing a sexual partner to HIV without disclosing the infection.

The measure also applies to those who give blood without telling the blood bank that they are HIV-positive.

More at the link but how messed up is that? You know you're exposing someone else to HIV but do not disclose it and infect that person and get away with nothing more than what a speeding ticket offense would give you. Is that really the best way they found to care for HIV patients? Surely there is an extent to how liberal you can be.

The sexual partner aspect is heinous enough, but the blood bank thing? Unbelievable.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

Ok...so the leaders in the USA are enticing a foreign power into nuclear war, and making it sort of legal for people at home to kill each other.

Somedays it seems like the conspiracy nuts may be on to something.

oh no i live in california

Not sure how blood banks work in the US but doesn't every blood donation get tested extensively, for illnessess and thrown out if they find any, regardless of what the donor chooses to 'disclose'?

I mean someone might be donating blood, not knowing they are infected. Over here you actually get a call if they find anything, they tell you what it is and to visit a doctor and your donation gets destroyed.

Is there any explanation as to why they are making this law? Knowlingly infecting someone with a life threatening/altering illness is vicious and I don't see how downgrading that to a misdemeanor is helping anyone.

That moment when infecting someone with HIV is better than going 2 miles over the speed limit according to the government.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

This is one of those rare occasions where everyone on this forum agrees.

This change to law is absolute bullshit.

Im assuming you can still sue someone giving you hiv in civil court. He just wont be going to jail.

Must be because of the porn lobby

Why would they want to let HIV enter the industry? After a few months everyone would be infected and there wouldn't be any healthy pornstars left.
