What a world we live in when ryan gosling isnt a star like you said but The rock is. People just loves trash and dumb movies like fast and furious and transformers.

Movie snobs are pathetic. It's amazing how you can find these people who think their preferences are superior in every kind of medium.

remakeing cult classics doesnt always work out well.

Great movie. I wouldnt say its underperdorming. More a case of trades not understanding that movies like It and Deadpool attract all kinds of crowds, most notably females and frat boys. Such Millenials probably dont even know about Blade Runner.

WB should never have given it a $150m budget though. As people have mentioned, Blade Runner is a cult classic.

2049 isnt a mindless action film like Deadpool, so it was never going to pull in an opening greater than $50m. Even It transcends different demographics. 2049 isnt going to appeal to too many outside of 25+ year old males.

It will do great on bluray.

Movie was financed by Sony/Alcon Entertainment, WB only distributes it in US

Makes sense, the mainstream just isn't into the cyber punk jizz going on in geek circles. Of all the 80s/90s nostalgia jizz going on right now, cyber punk is just a niche. Using a cult classic name that was never really popular outside said nerd circles wasn't gonna help it either.

And yeah, remakes/sequels/reboots are dumb, Hollywood needs more originality. Where are all the new IPs that people decades from now want to reboot, when so much is just rehashed ideas right now.

Please keep in mind that quite a few fans of the original did not want a sequel.

Blade Runner is among my most favorite movies but I‘m not interested in 2049. Why should I? They recycled everything incl. the main character (another male detective), Deckard and Vangelis‘ brilliant soundtrack.

All those recycled moments of BR 2049 will soon be lost like tears in rain.

Please refrain from making comments like this one without seeing the movie. Blade Runner 2049 is anything but a cash-grab. It's a movie in its own right, just set in the Blade Runner universe. Considered one of the best movies of the year and genre-redefining by me and many others.

Criticizing this movie as another remake/sequel/whatever as an attempt at making money is an insult not only to the movie but to film-making in general.

It's honestly shocking to me how so many people are bashing this movie without even having seen it, only using the fact that it has Blade Runner in its title as the basis behind their criticism. Most of them probably don't even know who Denis Villeneuve is, one of the best movie directors working today.

It should be noted that you are actually a millennial, despite talking about them like they are some other generation.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Well, the problem is they spent $150M making a sequel to a movie that only made $35M originally. $83M when adjusting for ticket price inflation. The largest the budget should have been was $50M-$60M.
