Forums - Sales Discussion - Forza Motorsport sales evolution and future?

Never actually realized just how many games the series has seen in just 12 years. Especially with the Motorsport side there seems to be some serious oversaturation happening, which might be the reason for the falling sales. The series probably needs a bit longer break between releases to build up more interest in the long run.

Making openworld graphics on level of closed is very large improvement... but I agree it can keep increasing. Just don't know by how much.

It definitely won't happen on the standard XB1 of course, not only is XB1 weaker than PS4, but Driveclub is closed and Horizon is open. But I feel like if Playground really tries it should be possible on the X. Of course it largely depends on rather they try to hit native 4K at all costs or not, if they're willing to compromise and go for say 1800p with checkerboarding, Driveclub tier graphics should be possible on X for sure.

Should be possible and would be great. But is MS willing to drop the native 4k tag and go with checkerboard for it?

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Too many forza Motorsport games churned out, resulting in franchise fatigue. I think the game will get a boost at the X1X launch, ending up at 2 million lifetime, but I just don't know how the Motorsport series can maintain sales from here on out. Many both forza studios should go all in on horizon, put Motorsport on hold for some time.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I think throwing in a 3rd racing franchise would be best. Something like kart racing. This way it will give each title a 3 year development.

haha just noticed that FM6 sales on VGC are hilariously wrong.
Just look at the 2017 sales so far

12k sales between January 1st and August 19th? Yeah sure. Especially when you consider that it's still much more expensive with ~30€ than other games that launched around the same time, which indicates that it's still selling a decent amount.

At #127 on Amazon 3 days after launch and has 2.5/5 star rating. Wonder if it'll even chart on NPD.

Do you have any number evidence to help us out?

Because having FM7 already launched and considering the drop on FM5 as well I don't think the numbers are too far from reality. Even worse, considering how low FM7 is on the ranks it can't be doing gangbusters.

The Motorsport games will continue to decline until MS realizes that they're suffering from serious franchise fatigue.

As for the Horizon games, 4 might sell better than 3, but 5 will sell worse than 4 if nothing changes.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

12k in 33 weeks is only 52 copies sold a day... world wide. For the most recent title in the series. FM7 launch is irrelevant as data is only up to August 19th.
FM5 did 240k in its 3rd year and 128k in its 4th year. I don't see how FM6 with less than 1/3 of the year left is supposed to go from 12k to anywhere near that. The holidays are big, but they won't make it sell 19 times the amount it sold in the first 2/3 of the year.

There are several last gen games that still sell more than that. Hell we have FM5 outselling it almost 2.5:1 for the year.

Have you considered the franchise is dying away?

FM7 launching would hold some sales even in August because it would have people holding off. And also, look at the ranking of the sales for FM7 perhaps interest have really dropped off. But we won't be sure before numbers really show up
