Four years is nothing in game development time. I just don't see how the volume of new IP from each is comparable. |
You're right. Microsoft actually *tried* to make a lot of new IP. It just failed miserably. I actually think Microsoft was more admirable in the beginning than Sony. They really tried to make Quantum Break, Cuphead, Ori, Scalebound, and Recore as facets of Microsoft. Not just small third part acquisitions, but actual big exclusives to sell the system. They failed...miserably. Quantum did terrible, Scalebound was cancelled, Cuphead delayed, and Recore had little polish and bad sales. And then... tbey announced all xb1 exclusives would come to PC. Keep in mind, all these games were slated or rumored for a 2016 release. It would have been a great year had these games been good, not cancelles, or not delayed. Of course, Sony jad third party exclusives too but I felt at that time that they were few and far between, and it seemed like they were just supplements for a lack of content. Bloodborne was the only one that sold consoles.
It's kind of sad really. Its almost admirable how much Microsoft took fun weird quirky original games amd tried to make them into Xboxs next Halos. But its their own fault it didnt work out. I had a lot of hope in late 2015. I think Sony just slacked way too mich up until this year. Both did.
This was my first new console generation in my lifetime and it was horrible. Now at least Sony and Ni tendo are kicking ass
