Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hate how MS killed their 1st party, and then waste millions trying to keep PUBG off PS4

Microsoft's most egregious error is that they thought more Halo and Gears would sustain them forever. They stayed pat with their hand while everyone else kept drawing more cards.

Granted, they might have believed Quantum Break would become the 4th Pillar but you can't put all your eggs in one basket like that. One of the things I like about Sony in the home console space is that they keep pushing new IP out into the wild.

Finding the games that will define your brand is a continuous process, not a destination that you can reach and then stop working.

I always go back and forth on this one. While I do think Microsoft needs new ips that define their brand, it's not exactly like Sony's 1st party has been any different right now. Sony's 1st party has been almost entirely reliant on old IP. Sure, they now have Horizon. And next year they'll have Days Gone, and Detroit. However, Detroit probably won't do much to sell consoles. Days Gone might take off.

I'm glad Xbox is around just because otherwise I'd be stuck with PSN and the DS4 for console gaming. No fucking thanks :)

Also, it should be required when you make a thread like this to post factual evidence of what you are wanting to discuss. Got any receipts on the "millions" MS is spending here?

Success or failure is beside the point.  The important part is that they're trying.  You can't find that next big franchise unless you're willing to accept failures.

My point wasnt about success or failure. My point was it took Sony almost 4 years to start making new IP that could realistically take over the Playstation mascot mindshare.

Four years is nothing in game development time.  I just don't see how the volume of new IP from each is comparable.

Won't even get PUBG.

eh, it's not as if Sony have never bought a console exclusive before...

But Sony has never used it as a means to avoid investing their first party development. This is why PlayStation dominates Xbox.

OT: Meh. I just ordered Fortnite for PS4, and if the full release of PUBG actually turns out to be any good, I'll get it when it comes to PS4. If I had that much interest in it, I'd be all over the PC version right now, but I honestly don't care.
