Forums - Microsoft Discussion - You're suddenly put in charge of the Xbox division. How do you steer it towards a recovery?

1.Buy Take Two (GTA exclusive) (Minecraft was a stupid move)
2.Buy 5 Good third party exclusives by year
3. Build new studios and Make new IPs "no Shooters" like Fighting, RPG or Adventure
4. Pay the best Marketing Campaign

Lol. Buying Minecraft is one of the smartest thing Microsoft has done for their gaming division.

Are you kidding me? XD explain me please...

This is like the Windows v Linux debate.

People want what they know best that that is PlayStation. If PS3 wasn't so expensive it would have won the gen in the first two years.

So the only way to save it is give an xbox away with every windows 10 copy bought and sign them up to a 12month online subscription. This will move hardware, will it move games who knows. At least on paper it will appear like hardware is moving.

Recovery from what?

From only selling a third of PS4 this year worldwide?!

I would continue with play anywhere, because stop it now would be really bad pr.Then i would try to bring a version of steam to xbox, making it an extension of windows basically(but with a better game service than that monstrosity that windows live is). Finally, convince enough publishers to only make PC/Xbox versions of their games.

It's not the course of action that i want from this industry(specially because i'm not a fan of xbox and microsoft at all)but that's what i can see they doing.

Not sure that's Microsoft's goal with XBox. It's not about outselling the competition, it was never about outselling the competition.

I don't think any industry was ever about outselling the competition.

I don't harken back to the 360, I go all the way back to the original. That console was a fucking Lamborghini. It was forward thinking, an absolute BEAST spec wise and focused on hard core gamers only. That is the template I would use.

I would get my hardware team to create a console that was at or slightly above the very best PC a person could build, buy a bunch of huge AAA games and make them exclusive, rebuild my first party team to make great first party software and then I'd sell the hardware at a massive loss and then recoup that loss on software. I'd also hire an aggressive marketing team and go all Sega-like. I'd have them make Nintendo and Sony look like inferior has-beens (not that they are, but this is what I'd do if I were in charge of Xbox). Then, to top it all off, the console would launch for $399.99 or less. Games would be $50.00, XBL would drop to $40.00 a year.

Microsoft has the pockets to make all of that happen. I would persuade them to do so.

Didnt they say at the Xbox launch that it was in fact their goal to be number 1?
