The Witcher 3 PS4 Pro update has arrived

The Witcher 3 PS4 Pro patch has just arrived, adding 4K resolution support and a "slight" boost to performance. It took longer than "just a few days" after all.

"Yes, the game has just received an upgrade patch, enabling it to take advantage of the additional power offered by the PS4 Pro," CD Projekt Red told me. "When playing the game on a PS4 Pro system, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and all its additional content feature support for 4K resolution and a slight boost to performance."

Wohooo thanks a bunch man !

I wonder how much is the proformance improved since the bost mode already eliminated most of the frame drops.

That quote was from Eurogamer so hopefully a DF vid will pop up today at some point.

Speaking of the Witcher, do I need to play the first two before I play this one?

I would, playing the Witcher currently, exclusive to PC though.

I wouldn't recommend playing 3 unless you have played the first two.

Saw someone post earlier that they believe it runs native 1800p.

Do you know what the improvements are ?? i just recently got a Pro and i never got around to play Witcher 3 :D

The people on Neogaf are trying to figure it out. Right now they're settled on it being either 1800p, 4k checkerboard, 4k geometry boost, or...

Yeah, you might want to wait for a video from Digital Foundry :)

Great. Can't wait for the DF analysis.

What?

Edges are rendered in native 4k, making the image sharper, to my understanding. I'm not a tech guy, though, so I'm a little confused about the process myself (I was just conveying what they are saying, not making any analysis myself).

No idea... heres some 4k screenshots though (from the patch & ps4pro's):

From Neogaf:

* Edit: Supposedly a guy on neogaf "pixle counted" and seems to think its 1800p, upscaled to 2160p (4k).

no HDR, but supposedly it downsamples, so even if you just have 1080p, this + ps4pro should result in a better looking game for you.

* Edit 2: Karspankey just did another pixel count and got 2160p (4k).  So hes not sure but says it could be anything from 1800p to 2160p. May be dynamic?

(zoomed in part from top picture)

I did not hear about this before. But doing some research on it, I doubt this is how the technique is supposed to work because that sounds like plain old multisampling anti-aliasing which only smooths the edges around geometry and has no effect on alpha textures and shader aliasing. Seems that Gravity Rush 2 on the Pro implemented something like this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-playstation-4-pro-game-upgrade-guide

Although I seriously doubt they were able to make this out with simply their eyes.

It sounds like the same technique they used in Gravity Rush 2.
