No, do not use Rosetta Stone!! You need something that teaches grammar, vocabulary and cultural context, along with getting practice with speaking, listening, writing and reading.

Edit: Oh, and I might add that I'm also learning Mandarin!! So you could always practise with me if you'd like!!

How are you learning?

Also I am in the Army (gov work) do I get resetta stone free?

Imo best to learn with application.

Imo it is best to learn from a pretty girl.

I used it to learn Arabic. It is pretty amazing if you stick with it. They even offer a live tutor at no additional charge (well, they did when I was first bought it back in 2012).

It's probably cheaper to buy a copy of Iron Man 3...

Mandarins are cheaper at a grocery store. Good little Oranges.

I only ever heard bad things about it. I'm pretty sure there are better services for any language out there. A lot of new and fresh ways to learn out there. There is probably a reddit out there for the language you want to learn. Check it out, they usually have great suggestions.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The Rosetta Stone I know is a stone with inscriptions made in ancient Egypt. Apparently it's also the name of a language learling website.

Mandarian orange seems to be... something odd???

We just have langenscheidt here. Dont know rosetta stone.

Language learning is basically from a lot of experience and effort, so reading a lot is the best way and use language dictionary as much as possible. Interaction is also very important.

So buy out some books and comics for children in that language, have a dictionary available and in the start also the translator. Perhaps use some alphabetization books for local children to get the basis.
