After an interview with "Andrew House" seems sony is not interested in another mobile system...

The Nintendo device is a hybrid device and that’s a different approach and strategy,” said House. “We have not seen [handheld gaming outside of Japan] as being a huge market opportunity.”

House continues by stating that Sony’s focus remains on console gaming.

“We remain focused around a highly connected gaming experience and also coupled with having a great range of other entertainment experiences so you can reach multiple people on the big screen in the household,” said House.

Well, that makes sense. The Playstation 4 is printing money right now, so they are focusing on completely supporting it.

Good they should focus on home consoles only. Maybe someday they will release a ps4 portable or ps5 portable if everything adds up properly.

But no more dedicated handhelds from Sony makes sense.

True, but you should never become complacent in this industry just because your device is all the rage. Nintendo learned this the hard way with the Wii. You have to stay on top of industry trends. Japan is a huge gaming market, if you lose them (which Sony is well on the way to doing if they haven't already) that's a huge chunk of the market gone.  They'll dominate the classic home console market as we know it but the industry is always changing.

As much as I loved the Vita, Sony has no clue how to handle a hand held. How to design one with practical design in mind, as well as support.

Very shaky history when it comes to peripherals/accessories/handhelds and Sony.

I’m glad to be fair. We have the Switch and 3DS for that market and Sony wouldn’t be able to compete so it’d be a complete waste of money on Sony half.

Add me if you want but let me know youre from this website

I think a lot of people would much rather have the Switch + PS4 combo rather than a PSP3 + PS4 combo as a handheld and home console combo anyways. Gives a much wider diversity of games and means you don't have 1st party game development split between two systems. Even goes the same for more people rather having a Switch + PS4 combo rather than both a Nintendo home console and handheld console like 3DS + Wii U.

I think by ceding the handheld battle, Sony allows Switch to act as a lever to pry Japanese third party support away.  For example, I'd suggest most Vita developers are more likely to move over to Switch than to PS4.

Products with a very high worldwide base and less demonstrated success on portable systems can hold out on Playstation for a while, maybe Metal Gear Solid is a good example, but for something like Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest, can you afford to skip Switch?

Nintendo must be so happy. No more competition in the hand held market.

Hope this means they dont cost cut on the next generation 3ds since now they dont have to compete with anything.

like make a 1080p screen now 720p to save 10 cents a glass.

Well, PS Vita flopped, so why would they be?
