That is the whole point of a protest.  It makes you who is comfortable uncomfortable.  If a protest made you comfortable then it did not do its job.

As for Trump, he probably did the NFL a favor.  While he may be pandering to his base, he has unified the NFL on this whole topic.  He turned a small protest that probably would have lost steam in a year to being a national event by giving it more press. Should be interesting how this develop.

Don't be surprised if it hurts the NFL. I was busy yesterday and thus watched my home teams game like a minute or two into it and tunred it off the second it was over. Thus I didn't really know anything about this protesting. They mentioned for like 5 seconds some solidarity across the league during the anthem and showed a clip of players holding arms. Didn't think nothing of it, and couldn't tell from that 5 second clip whether it was in support of flag or not.

I come into work today and like 5 people come up to me, unapproached, to see what I thought of it. Since I didn't really know anything, I listened mostly and not one person was in support of the players. Scrolling through my facebook feed today, for every person supporting it there are 10 people hating on it. FYI, the ones in support of it are not the football fans.

NFL has been struggling in their numbers and I dont' see this helping.

I will not be surprise what it does.  It could go either way depending on the narative but right now the narative is that the President should shut up about it.  My take is that he made this more of an issue and while this was getting media attention, by throwing his hat into it, is like throwing gasoline to the protest.  It would be interesting if he actually turned this protest into a bigger one protesting him which he probably would like as he loves attention.  Also its interesting you mention your facebook feed because while yours show 1 out of every 10 supporting it, on mine its the total opposite.  Facebook I believe will not be the indicator where people fall in this subject since it differs for each individual friend base.

It was hard to miss the controversy with Trump's NFL speech.

Anyway seems some people really don't know the rules and this is a lovely summary.

NFL is not disrespecting the flag! NFL is denouncing the "POS dotard president" crazy ass remarks.

Trump alone is disrespecting the flag and this great country.

America first my ass, more like Trump's ego first.

USA is the joke of the world with are foes & allies thanks to Trump.

The narrative is obvious. It will be against Trump and for this protest.

What the narrative says and what actually happens are completely different things though. I mean the narrative has been for Cap since day 1, yet look how that turned out. And what does the narrative say about why that is? 100% due to his protest. Not saying it doesn't have a factor. It's the same as like signing someone like Terrel Owens, it will bring drama to the field and disrupt your players. BUT unlike Owens, Cap is just not that good. Look at his stats in teh games he played last year. Like 3rd string back-up worthy stats.

But let me ask you on your feed. Those in favor, are they sports fans?  Like I said for me. THose I know watch sports and are big into it were ovewhelmingly against it. A couple support from sports guys, but most support is from people that couldn't name more a coupld players in the league and probably be retired people they mention. Then lots of support from those that woulnd't know the diff from a basketball or a football.

The point is. The people the NFL wants are not happy. The supporters aren't watching games, going to games or buying merchandise so their support is meaningless.

Neither does burning a cross in someones front yard.

Well... it kind of does. Since then they'd have to clean up their burnt front yard. If you want to burn something at least do it in your own yard

Not to mention air pollution and climate change and it being a total waste of recourses.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Both your comments can refer to flag burning as well. The first one, they may not be burning the flag in someones yard, but I can guarantee that htey are not cleaning up after burning wherever they do it. So some custodial worker, locations owner, city workers, someone has to clean up after them.

As for second, obviously air pollution, climate change ect for burning something. Probably worse to burn a flag than a couple of pieces of wood. Don't know what all chemicals are in that flag.

I like how before it was a controversial issue then Trump opens his mouth now people left right and centre aren't standing for the anthem lol. From the outside looking in it looks like Trump has had more drama in 9 months than most Presidents have in 4-8 years.

Most of my friends are sports fan. What makes you believe this is the issue that is bringing sales down.  If anything this is just one of many issues the NFL has gone throgh from Abusive players, concussion issue, Cap and his protest etc.  Its not like any of the big sports have not had their ups and downs so trying to just pin this on players kneeing to the flag is making it bigger than it really is.  The majority of my friends do not care.  They support the player having the right to stand or kneel and thats about as far as the caring goes.

Really if a supporter is so unhappy because a few players kneel during the NA, then they probably was just so so fans to begin with.  They are the 10% that watch one season and then not another or only watch during the superbowl or playoffs (like How I am with Baseball).

The narative is actually moving away from Cap and his ability on the field into a movement.  Before it was just a few people with their silent protest, you could either hate, support or be indifferent to the player and move on.  Now it actually could take some type of shape and if the President keeps opening his mouth it may.  If this helps or hurt the NFL we will see.  The more gas poured on the issue the more you may see this spilling into other sports.  This could burn bright and die out out or it could gain momentum.  We shall see how long Trump feels he needs to double down on his tweets and where it goes.  I am sure if he sees his approval rating surge he will be gunning with both barrels, if they dip he will suddenly shut up and move to another topic to deflect his problems.

Patriotism vs Nationalism. Some people really need to learn the difference.

Both are ideologies I oppose.

I really wish Dems could get over their butt hurt, and stop letting Trump troll them. It was funny at first, but now the constant flow of tears in annoying.
