Forums - Politics Discussion - *Disrespecting the flag* Trump's speech + Rules.

I was never allowed to stand during anthems or pledges and got a lot of grief for it growing up.

Personally I don't think patriotism is something that should be achieved through force and intimidation or even shaming. It should be earned through ideas and actions that embody the best in us as a people.

Guess what? Not everyone does. I don't need a flag or some anthem to help fellow Americans. People should be allowed to disagree and kneel without having the president of all people calling them sons of bitches

Maybe Trump should get his head out of his ass and care about issues besides sports. For fuck's sake, when did Obama devote his time whining about conservatives or players who despise him?

Yeah congratz. I have no issue with people sitting or standing. I dont need more politics for the things I watch. Everyday and everywhere now its ridiculous. Trump needs to focus on the US and football players focus on football. Dont attack one person and not the other.

Maybe the thing Trump should focus on is the fact that 3.4 million US citizens are without electricity and clean water in Puerto Rico. It would be, you know, the imortant thing to do.

He's free to create controversity by criticising and denying people their freedom of speech, to distract from his lousy politics instead, but he won't get off without being criticized and called out for it.

What is this even.. How can you be this stupid? None of these pictures have a FLAG in it. US flag colors =/= US flag.

I do agree the picture of 10.176l shows a violation. But you are fucking beyond dumb, you are the reason fake news exists, believing STUPID allegations without taking a second to LOOK into it.

Edit: I forgot to mention 10.176c. That would not really work for a flag this size, but I would need to see how it was actually moved and also need a more in depth interpretation of the wording. It's hard to conceive how making a big ass flag could be disrespectful, as it is hard to move it in other way. That is a very specific case.

Accept I didnt spin anything. Trump attacks athletes for "disrpecting" the flag. In his mind not standing is disrpecting and wants them fired. I dont think they should be fired but I guess it sort of is disrpectful. But whatever it is your right to stand or sit. Again I dont care. Id just rather it not be everywhere. Its at home, work and now every damn channel. Anyways back to my point. Trump attacks athletes and calls them SOB's and that turns into a racial matter because 90% of the news likes to spin Trumps words. Trump brings his own hate but the news adds more and its not needed.

What dont I like exactly? Am I not able to express my opinion on the flag and the matter that follows it?

EDIT: I do apologize for "projecting" to you. I could have explained my point much better in the first post. I thought I typed more than I did.

haha, you really think it is the media that is spinning this into a racial matter?? That's cute.

Have you not paid any attention at all to why these people are kneeling during the anthem? Let me fill you in: racism. Trump is attacking people, calling them SOBs (the president of the US calling people SOBs - let that just sink in for a moment, think about how low the presidency has sunk into the gutters this year), because some ball players feel they are standing up against racial inequality and oppression. To be clear: Trump is attacking people who are trying to stand up again racism, these people are basically all black people. It takes no spin the put this in the realm of racism on the part of Trump. Just print his words, as the media always does, and the wretchedness of Trump displays itself.

How are you this single minded? Colin Kaepernick did it to call attention to "police violence". Sure theres racism in every state. People are just asses. Theres no need for it. Just like every race has a few dirt bags so doesnt every police station. But if you actually did some research the stats show black on white crime or black on black crime soars past white on black crime. And same thing with police shootings. Police officers shoot and kill more white people than black people.

You arent standing up to racism. All your doing is pissing fans off.

I totally agree. Im not defending his stupid actions and this being one of them but only the twisting of his words that people love to do. He needs to realize climate change is real and while still a long way off things need to start getting done.

Way too many people do.

People support certain values, not because they're rationally good, but because they've been taught that these values are good. This also includes the love for your country, religion, favorite console... Sometimes this irrational love goes so far that people go half crazy when it gets criticized. Disrepecting a flag equals disrespecting a country, and some people simply can't handle that.
