yea the AFD (which is comprised of a few outright neo-Nazis and quite a number of people that are fine with being in the same party as neo-Nazis) did much better than I hoped

afaik you guys have a similar party and I hope it does much worse in 2018/2020

I think maybe I am wrong, mainstream media and politics underestimated the resentment and anger from 2015

Germany experience with the issue pretty caused doors to be shut across other countries or to be severely limited.

Like here in Canada we took like 40,000 and we liked picked and chose who we wanted and then had them go through rigorous background checks and single males were pretty much banned.

As she stands for nothing: no. Well, the immigration has lead to disgruntled people, who blame Merkel.

hm .. imo Merkel is a true conservative and as such she does stand for  "things are going well, so let's change nothing"

Right. I am very happy that she doesn't need some sort of agenda to push like building a wall or such nonsense. She stands for professionalism and sobriety. Since she runs the country germany executes much better economically and regained a lot of international trust. Don't fucking up a country means picking the right decisions every day, which is by far not as easy as some may think. It's also worth mentioning that this is a time where she opposes to far rights throughout the entire world, not only within germany, and she's doing very fine.

What you call liberals?
Liberalism or Left wing PC crowd?

Why is anyone surprised about the AFD support on here? Have you seen the amount of Trump supporters on this site? People love their right wing nut jobs.

It's not like Trump isn't equally popular in the real world.

As far as I see it's that Big D doesn't even have a majority in his own country and the rest of the world thinks of him as a joke. I'd say real world approval of Donald is safely below 10%. USA is probably the only country where his approval is above 10%.

Except no one will form a coaltion with the Linke. So it will be the big coalition of CDU and SPD as usual..

Doubt it...

So in your professional opinion, what kind of coalition will it be?

edit: Just heard that SPD doesn't want the coalition. So Jamaika it is.

At least we didn't make them president, so that's nice.

Liberalism. Like the real meaning of the word and not the warped shit people are calling over there.

Flip-flopping on nuclear power shows that it is more moving along the lines of public opinion. The description earlier in this thread as pebble in the river is surprisingly fitting.

The FDP I called liberals are liberals standing for liberalism. Not left. But looking from the US-standpoint everyone in germany - including Merkel - may look left. The US has two right-wing-parties vying for power. Basically Merkel defends a system that more or less is the stuff Bernie Sanders is demanding for the US.

But isn't that what true democracy is all about? Acting upon issues when things are changing and the majority of the people speak out on important issues. One could say Merkel is one of the few truly democratic leaders that's not just bound to her party or voters, but all citizens.
