Forums - General Discussion - Toys R' Us files for chapter 11 bankruptcy.

So Toys R' Us is filing for C11 bankruptcy. It doesn't mean they are going out of bussiness, but it does mean that they can legally stiff their debtors. Apparently Bain Capital (Yes, the same Bain capital that Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney used to run) had a hand in saddling Toys R' Us with massive debt in the early 2000's. https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2017/09/toys-r-us-another-private-equity-casualty.html

Even if they closed some stores, their 'clearances' would probably still be above market price lol

They price match Amazon and Wal-Mart though.

Last time I went there was five years ago when I got a gift for someone. Guess they changed it

As awesome as Toys R Us was, growing up, this was obvious years ago. The majority of kids don't play with toys anymore, and the ones that do, they're parents simply buy them from Wal-Mart or Amazon. Video games and mobile gaming are the thing now.

I would say I'd miss it, but the last Toys R Us near me closed down over a decade ago. I wonder what's gonna happen to that really cool one in New York?

The Times Square location closed. They are however opening a new temporary location not far from the previous one, just much smaller and only for the holiday season.

A good video that I watched on this subject. In fact, I'm hooked on this channel.

There's a few in the UK, they always seem empty with more staff than customers whenever I go which isn't very often as some distance from me, maybe the first to get the chop. I did order online once from them but the order was cancelled their end. That's my experience of them. I'm sure at Christmas though they are packed. The main one I've visited in Cribbs Causeway in Bristol looks a little tired which I visited about a month and a half ago just to see what they had as it was close to other stores I was going to.

I go there from time to time. Just out of curiosity on how well they are. And they arent. The stores (the ones in Portland and Columbus anyway) are empty. Very few people. And the shelves are as unorganized as a K-Mart. Its sad. Cause being a young kid just before the tech apocalypse (Pre-2007), TRU was always full! But now everyone wants a 3DS, an iPhone, a PS4, tablet, or whatever. Kids dont ask for toys

I remember going there when I was a kid, the slot car section was great and it was the only store that had all the HeroQuest expansions. Ah, the good times...
