Forums - Sony Discussion - is Sony making too much conferences during the year?

don't missunderstand, i'm always waiting very hard for the next game announcement conference from sony to see the newest announcements they have for the gamers, but at the same time i think there are at the moment too much conference to make every conference really interesting. We have E3, gamescom, paris games week, tgs, psx... Wouldn't it be enough or better to have only 2 conferences at year, but having more new game announcements at this shows (maybe e3 and tgs). From the time frame the 2 shows would be perfect, and maybe for the developers would it be better to have the time to prepare the games for the public...or do you think it's better as it is?

No. Not every conference is supposed to appeal to you. PlayStation is a worldwide brand spanning all flavors of life so they need to have targeted marketing for each of these demographics.

The possibility that all of these conferences can appeal to one single individual is nothing short of excellent and why they're in the lead.

gamescom had no Sony press conference

I think they should have done one there instead of at Paris Games Week, as this year there was a 2month gap between E3 and GC, while there is only a 1 month gap between PGW and Playstation Experience

There is a wide gap between the market leader and the competition. Therefore, the answer to your question: No.

Do people think products promote themselves?

First lets start with the title.
"Is Sony having too many conferences this year".

They have had the same amount of conferences for years now.

Plus why would you want less? Less reveals, less games, less information?
Or do you just want really really long conferences?

Multiple conferences throughout the year is a lot better than just one or two at the beginning/middle.

He wants less so that E3 has more new/surprise announcements and thus he can say "Sony won E3"

I agree with you OP. I feel that TLOU 2 should've been at E3 rather than PSX. I feel the way with uncharted lost legacy. I really hope PSX Doesn't do more announcements that should've been E3 megatons. But nsteqd of cutting PSX, I would give the big announcements to E3, while psx can do all the vr crap.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

This.

No, but people may want to adjust expectations that each additional conference is not another E3.

With so many games coming out these days it is good that Sony lets them shine in a show, otherwise many smaller titles would get even less coverage.

Too many conferences because there's too many games for PS4.

Sony's making sure the world knows that they have a ton of variety of games coming and it's not stopping.

The last thing a consumer wants is to pick up a system only to realize you're unsure of its future library of games.

Basically this. People wind up disappointed that Uncharted 5 wasn't announced at the Joe's Crab Shack Expo. I'm like, "What did you think was going to happen!?"
