id Tech 6 is fantastic, and the port is still in development.
Given time I am sure they can get a Perfect 30 FPS.

Actually my faith was way higher than that^^

I hoped for 60fps if they just downgrade it enough. But it looks like they went for visuals over framerate which is so fucking stupid. I mean it already looks like a PS3 game, nobody would care if it drops even lower. But having 30fps in a fast paced twitch shooter is just sad. And I kinda doubt the finished product will be perfectly stable 30fps now.

To get to 60FPS you pretty much need half the elements on screen to be sprites.

I don't think many people would react well to 2D weapons in a modern 3D title.
They could of letterboxed the screen, to give a more cinematic experience and help it reach 60FPS.

The IGN footage is horrible to see due to the reflection cast on the screen. But reading the preview, it seems that its an excellent port.I would have liked that Bethesda said on what resolution amd frames the game runs, but from the footage, it seems that is at least a 30 fps locked.
All that power argument about Switch not being able to run third party games, for the most part, has been thrown out the window.

To be fair, the base version of Doom ran at 60 on the twins (or close to it).

Nier: Automata?

And the frame drop isn't the only difference would be the second "to be fair" statement. Same thing with Skyrim, and looks to be what they will have to do if S-E decide to bring XV to the Switch, hell even Dragon Quest 11, so really it's not like the console could handle those games as they were, they can downgrade them which seems to be at least somewhat easy.

I'd say Nintendo fans are more used to sub par graphics than low FPS. If everything was sprites they would still come and call it a marvel of technology because it runs at 1080p and 60fps. Well, some of them.

What do you think matters more in a game like Doom?

The 60 to 30fps could be a CPU bottleneck that could be less dramatic for 30fps games, after all we are getting a decent Skyrim on the Switch.

According to Digital Foundrys slightly improvised testing is indeed a cpu bottleneck. The gpu side of things seems to be fine, but the fact that one CPU core is reserved for the system+the fact tha it's a mobile ARM cpu are limiting performance.

The Switch has four more, albeit much weaker cpu cores doesn't it? I wonder why they don't relegate the system to those and free up the fourth A57 core instead.

Obvious answer would be battery life in portable mode, Nintendo could do similar like they done for GPU to increase clocks for docked mode (for instance going from 1GHz to 1.5GHz), but that would complicated development of games much more and it would mean even weaker battery life. Currently, how Nintendo and other devs seems are doing games for Switch is that they making game first for portable mode, and they later just using higher GPU clock to raise native resolution for docked mode.

So yes, we can say that CPU is bottleneck for Switch, but CPU is bottleneck event for rest of XB1/PS4 hardware, not to mentione Pro and X.

I don't think as a title in content terms it compares to Skyrim. Skyrim is a huge adventure, a virtual world with an incredible amount of things to see and do and the ability to play the game as you want to. It can be tailored to the experience you want. I think Skyrim is a far superior game especially with the additions they have added to the Switch version. This doom feels like more of an update on doom 3 which was brilliant on the old original xbox. I'm not knocking the game but I wouldn't have wanted to pay more than £8 for the title. It's worth a bash now and again. It certainly doesn't seem like anything that couldn't have run on ps3 and 360 either with the necessary graphic downgrade's too.

Skyrim is ofcourse bigger game, but Doom is very hard core FPS game, and actual Switch doesn't have FPS game, so Doom is good fit for Switch espacily because definitely they are people who want to play Doom in full handheld mode.

The posts here are hillarious.

If one of you guys have ever played doom on the pc than you exactly know that all the other versions are garbage.

The console players here are talking like their 6 years old tech are the center of the universe. If i have 3 times garbage versions and 2 of them are just playable on the tv but only one of them on the tv and on the toillette than i would prefer the last one. All 3 are looking awfull but at leasr one is playable portable.

I agree. 4k maxxed out on PC. And I still would prefer the switch version over any other console one, because of the mobility aspect.

Do you play it on PC at 30fps and with controller?

With mouse and keyboard most of the time. But when I feel like it, I play also on the TV, so a xbox360 controller is a must.

And yes, it's 30 fps most of the time, because of my PC specs. So I don't bother with it much. But you can check some youtube videos on how doom performs in 4k on a gtx 1070.

I play it myself at 1440p and 144fps. So if the controller wouldn't already disqualify it then 30fps would certainly do it for me. But if you're playing like that on PC I can understand why you would prefer the Switch version.

Easy Allies impression on the Doon and Skyrim on Switch:

Jesus that looks amazing and to think that it's still 3 months of work away from being released.

Honestly when I heard the news about Doom being ported to the Switch first I really thought it was the original Doom, didn't even consider it could be the new title. Incredible stuff in the future of the Switch and yeah, pisses all over people who thought the machine would have issues getting solid ports of PS3/60 titles.
