Why are the Castlevania games considered good?

I agree the first three were very stiff games, but it got better after that.

SoTN is so vastly overrated. I hate what that game did to the series. Fuck that game! Castlevania in 8 and 16-bit era are the best. Gothic and very horror focused rather than glam rock RPG Metroid games. I like Metroid but not in my Castlevania. Ok, I like some post-Sotn CVs but none come close to the greatness of SCV4. Linear action horror as it should be. Lords of Shadow 1 was great as it went back to the gothic western inspired horror. Not anime. (I like anime just not for CV in general) I fell out of love with CV games in general once Sotn release. God I hate that game. I do like the music but not the game.

The controls are responsive and can be mastered quite easily. The character may be slow, but the control is precise. The games are generally good to amazing. The soundtracks, art design, level design and challenge is usually top notch. The theme is cool too.

Personally, I don't like any of the 8 and 16 bit games.

All the metroidvania games though are great. I'm completed SotN, GBA games, and DS games multiple times.

It's all because of Symphony of the Night. The other games were all forgettable and/or bad.

So was your comment on a load of great games.

Looks like you took it very personally for some reason. Let me correct myself: The other games were mostly forgettable and/or bad. Some of them were good indeed.

The same reason Metal Gear gets the nod over Splinter Cell. People like the story and the over all tone of the game.

The controls and feel aren't exactly bad but they are somewhat stiff..intentionally.

Meral Gear is focused on stealth and almost over reliant on it if you ask me...and sacrafices gun control and accuracy. SC was in my opinion far greater in both of those facets.

So basically...Castlevania tried to seperate itself from the sidescroll action genre.

I'm not the biggest fan of CV but I appreciate originality. Anytime you can capture a players emotions by environment alone you've accomplished something major. Thats not ecactly what I'm trying to say but you get the picture.
