Forums - Sales Discussion - Have X1 been overtaken by X360 on aligned sales?

We have heard for a long time that X1 were ahead of X360 as the most successful Xbox ever, but been some time since MS never said that again so I suspect that it may have fallen behind.

So I done some verification on VGC and have some preliminary data (I couldn't find full weekly tables for easy construction) that suggest X1 have been left behind.

X360    3 Years+launch WW = 27M 4 Years+launch= 37M

X1         3 Years+launch WW = 28M LTD = 31M (possibly won't reach X360 anymore)

X360    3 Years+launch USA = 14M 4 Years+launch = 21M

X1         3 Years+launch USA = 16M LTD = 17M (will probably be overtaken in USA this year as well. been severily down YOY and I don't think X1X will reverse it).

It was likely overtaken at some point last year. Microsoft had this to say after the 2016 holiday season:

"Thanks to you, Xbox One continues to outpace Xbox 360 at the same point in time in the Xbox 360 generation, making it the best-selling console in Xbox console history."

But when you look at their PR statement after the 2017 holiday season, there's no mention of the One outpacing the 360.

Probably, since MS used to say it every time they had the chance to it seemed, and now they dont anymore.

There's just no way the Xbox One will come even close to the 360. It will probably sell 7-8 mil this year, 7-8.5 mil next year, and then go to 5.5-5 mil the next two years

I wish MS gave sales numbers, I don't understand how a publicly trading company doesn't divulge that information.

VGC actually recently did an Xbox One vs 360 gap chart which suggests it has been overtaken.

Thanks dear Bear, I have missed it. So it is "definitive". But seems like in USA it is still ahead so far, but will probably be overtaken on Holidays.

That was my reasoning when it clicked in my memory yesterday.

If I recall, they only need to tell those things to shareholders by law. The rest is all marketing, so if letting people know the numbers would make them look bad in some way, they're unlikely to release them.

They'll start giving numbers as soon as they are back in the lead in monthly sales...which will probably never happen.

Actually impressive that it held on for so long. It's not like X360 was a badly selling console.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Had to happen sooner or later. I figured once we reached the "Kinect years", it wouldn't even be close. M$ needs another rabbit in their hat. Unfortunately, the XBO X isn't going to be it.
