Forums - Politics Discussion - Is violence becoming more socially acceptable than "offensive words"?

Society has been going this direction since censorship became more focus around sexual content and words than violence. Even now I think back to when I was a kid and how I viewed violence and sex in media, god awful.

Society would be so much better if people would just listen to some goddamn Modest Mouse

Killing nowadays is less offensive than droping the n-word, much less. The world has become retared after all. This generation of snowflakes ruined everything.

This topic is one that gets spoken of extremely often in my home. It seems that police killing people in the street is acceptable but taking a knee during the national anthem sparked the most backlash this country has seen since 9/11.

Now, I am not saying we cannot or should not discuss someone taking a knee in protest. But I am saying we should use twice that amount of energy discussing and attempting to eradicate injustice.

A woman just got 15 months in prison for encouraging her boyfriend to kill himself. Meanwhile, a guy that actually ran a woman over and killed her got 22 days in jail and a fine. I would say, society has always had this mentality. When a school shooting happens, people blame art... like seriously, art. Sad, sad state of humanity.

You mean stuff like... @violence "cool, he just smashed that guys face in!" @sex "eww, that's gross!"?

Definitely agree that censorship focuses too much on sex/words than violence though. How anyone can argue that it's worse for a kid to see a pair of boobs than a fight is beyond me.

Yep. I remember as a kid thinking that sex scenes should be like banned from movies. They were just so awkward to watch with your parents. Of course some of that is a natural response, but even removed from that context I didn't like them. There's a certain merit to the idea that Sex should not be prioritized over violence or curse word on the scale of censorship.  Of course that's not what the thread is about, but it's the small stuff like that that really shapes our outlook on these kind of things. I hate using the word "systematic" but it really is an issue. Violence is in no way acceptable, and neither is bad behavior, but one is protected by the constitution and another isn't. Luckily we have great real life consequences to bad behavior that will affect someone for the rest of their life and make them feel like a loser, versus needless violence which just justifies their actions and makes people sympathize with them.

Feminists close their eyes when a woman is raped by immigrants in Europe but shake the world bringing the issue of nerds that like to masturbate to Overwatch porn locked int heir rooms because having a nude art of D.VA is the same as raping a real woman.

Holy shit is this true? The guy got only 22 days?

Donte Stallworth was convicted of DUI and manslaughter (I am using him as a second example since my first example was local and relatively unknown) for killing a man during a drunk driving incident and he got a 30 day sentence and a fine. He served 26 days. You can google that one if you need confirmation.

being drunk shouldn't be a "mitigating circumstance" anymore, instead it should lead to a tougher sentence, as it's been known for decades that drunk driving it's extremely dangerous to everyone involved

Well, I think this generation of snowflakes is created by the media, which made heroes do violent actions (killing, punching, hurting bad people) while upholding standards of proper language.

You can get life sentence for marijuana possession, but molest a child child and you'll do a cool 3-5.
We have child prisoners doing life sentences for armed robbery, despite no one being killed or seriously injured.
Th U.S. has been fucked for long time, so this path is not surprising.

Honestly, I think people became too sensitive, or rather, the minority of these people that push this kind of propaganda got loud because of the internet. But yeah, people are too sensitive sometimes.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
